Success: Justice for Murdered Elephant Conservationist

Target: Simon Sirro, Inspector General of Police, Tanzania Police Force

Goal: Applaud the arrest and charging of eight people for the murder of renowned elephant conservationist Wayne Lotter.

Justice has finally been served for conservationist Wayne Lotter, who was gunned down in August while in a taxi returning from the airport. Eight people have been charged with murder and conspiracy to murder by a Tanzania court. Following petitions like this one at ForceChange, this marks a victory for conservation and compassion in Tanzania and internationally.

Wayne Lotter was one of the founders of the PAMS Foundation, an organization that fought ivory trafficking and elephant poaching. In a statement, PAMS congratulated the Tanzania Police Force on capturing the individuals allegedly responsible for shooting and killing Lotter, and said, “Wayne was a visionary conservationist working with indefatigable determination to save Tanzania’s wildlife and we are relieved that some of the perpetrators responsible for his untimely death have been apprehended and are being brought to justice.” Sign below to show support for Lotter’s invaluable influence on elephant conservation, and for the authorities who worked to bring his alleged killers to justice.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Inspector General Sirro,

The murder of conservationist Wayne Lotter was a shocking and senseless tragedy. Lotter was a leader in the vital fight for the conservation of elephants in Tanzania and combatting the trafficking of ivory. His death in August, when he was shot by unknown gunmen while leaving the airport, was a major blow.

The news that eight people have been arrested in this case, and that the courts are charging those individuals with murder and the conspiracy to murder, is a major victory. It is an important moment for Wayne Lotter and his loved ones, as well as for Tanzania’s wildlife. Thank you for your efforts in ensuring that these alleged killers were brought to justice.

Sincerely,
