Don’t Kill Homeless Dogs and Cats Before World Cup Event in Russia

Target: Pavel Kolobkov, Russian Sports Minister

Goal: Do not allow local officials in 11 Russian cities to cull homeless pets before the FIFA World Cup event.

Russia will be hosting this year’s FIFA World Cup in 11 different cities across the country. In order to “ensure security and a pleasant stay,” the Russian government has authorized these cities to kill thousands of homeless dogs and cats living on the streets, a move similar to one taken before the Sochi Winter Olympics. We must demand that a more humane solution be reached that does not cause harm to these animals.

The innocent cats and dogs of Russia do not deserve to be killed simply because they have nowhere else to go. Sign this petition and demand that the sports minister keep his word and ensure that no homeless pets are harmed in the hosting cities.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Minister Kolobkov,

Russia has a massive stray pet population, with over two million dogs and cats believed to be living in cities without homes. While this is a serious issue that deserves to be addressed, these animals deserve to be treated humanely and with respect. They do not deserve to be killed off in droves in the cities hosting the FIFA World Cup simply because their presence is inconvenient or looks bad.

We, the undersigned, ask that you ensure that these innocent animals do not meet the same sad fate so many others had before the Sochi Winter Olympics and other major events in your nation. Please do the right thing and ensure these animals are given humane treatment.

Sincerely,

Are you kidding me, this is the only way to think of doing something for the homeless animals. What a cowardly and easy way to solve a problem. It’s people’s fault that their there, NOT THEIRS. Come on Russia be humane to these innocent animals and open a shelter and find them homes. But that would mean having compassion!

if the world cup is at the expense of the death of so many innocent animals, then it is not worth it.Shame disgusting. It is like a head of a killed animal as atrophy. Such events should be banned. every country has stray animals what are they trying to portray?

  3. There are many ways to “ensure security and a pleasant stay” for the coming athletes and visitors in these 11 cities…culling dogs and cats are not one of them. In fact it leaves a terrible reflection to the world about the current moral values and beliefs of Russian society. Russians would be best to take this opportunity to set an example to the world by building animal shelters equipped with food supplies, veterinarians and animal caring assistants; set up adoption clinics to find forever homes for the strays as well as spay and neuter programs; register the animals with GPS collars to find them and identify their owner should they get lost. Then Russia will be seen as a warm and caring society to the world when they come to visit.

What a very STUPID & INHUMANE AND CRUELTY thing to do? Are they KILLING HOMELESS people too before their stupid World cup event too? Don’t KILL THOUSANDS OF HOMELESS CATS AND DOGS!!!! Find them loving homes!!!

  5. Perhaps the footballers themselves could make a difference by joining the rest of us who find this abhorrent.

  6. SLAUGHTER THE PEOPLE WHO BRING HARM TO THESE INNOCENT ANIMALS.

If your people (mandatory), would spay & neuter their pets, this would help eliminate many homeless animals. Please find a better way. These animals do not deserve a death sentence. Your citizens need to be more responsible with their pets & stop throwing them out on the streets like trash when they are tired of them. Please, please, please do not kill these innocent animals.

  9. Start with POS humans that put them there in the first place. Heartless bastards!

  10. Russia – prove you are superior by showing intelligence and a heart. The money and time spent to slaughter innocent animals could more widely be spent in requiring that dogs and cats be sterilized. If you can’t do this, then the humans must be sterilized, as humans are the cause of all problems in this planet.

  11. There are so many humane ways to help/ rescue these poor innocent animals. Let some rescue groups in to help. Educating people to spay and neuter is another solution. Making it affordable is probably a challenge there. The World Cup should speak out against these atrocities.

  12. Please Russia you are not a third world country, you are one of great capabilities so do the right thing. Perhaps you could use AERIAL BIRTH CONTROL” or a “TNR” program. Murdering these creatures is cruel and cold blooded, have compassion, show your humanity!

  13. LEAVE THESE ANIMALS ALONE YOU HORRIBLE EVIL PEOPLE…THESE ANIMALS ALSO HAVE A RIGHT TO LIFE…THESE ANIMALS HAVE A HEART OF GOLD MORE THAN ANY HUMAN…SHAME ON YOU

  14. Do the right thing Russia! No need at all to treat these animals as brutal as you plan too. There are humane solutions, like someone here said, allow animal welfare groups in the area they will be more than happy to get those dogs snd cats away from where they are not wanted. For goodness sake is there really nobody on this planet that will not put money and status first? Do the right thing Russia!!!!!

  17. Please do not harm the dogs and cats….they have a right to life too..
Let them be taken care of…

  18. Patricia James says:

Sorry but Animals are more important than fucking football. Sort your priorities out???

  19. Heather Brophy says:

It’s all about the money and cruel ignorance of these heartless events!

  20. Heike Koenich says:

Mr. Putin, would you treat your own dogs in such a way?
