Goal: Applaud animal control officer’s efforts to ensure that an allegedly abused elephant was rescued and transferred to an elephant sanctuary.
An animal control officer rescued an allegedly abused elephant from her filthy and cramped trailer after her owner’s vehicle had broken down on a roadside, prompting local residents and members of the ForceChange community to demand that officials do something about the elephant’s abhorrent living conditions. Nosey, an elderly African elephant, has been forced to give rides and perform at owner Hugo Liebel’s Great America Family Circus for over 20 years, resulting in her near lameness from arthritis. Nosey’s suffering may now finally be at its end, as a court has ordered for her transfer to an elephant sanctuary pending her owner’s trial for animal cruelty.
Nosey’s move to the sanctuary, even as a temporary measure, marks a major victory in this poor elephant’s history of decades of alleged abuse. Over 200 Animal Welfare Act (AWA) complaints have been made on Nosey’s behalf, including reports that she has been kept chained in cramped living conditions where she cannot turn and was forced to stand in her own feces. Liebel is also accused of not providing Nosey with adequate veterinary care.
Now that Nosey has been removed from Liebel’s care, it is hopeful that she will never suffer again from such cruelty or neglect. Sign this petition to thank the animal control officer responsible for her timely intervention and for her efforts that may ensure that Nosey will never have to suffer from such alleged cruelty ever again.

Nosey has suffered too long! Her spirit must be broken! Sad that people use and abuse these majestic animals for their own wealth! She needs to go to a sanctuary with others like her immediately!

Yes, thank you to all those that played a part in Nosey’s rescue. But why does it take so long for people to do the right thing? It really shouldn’t take petitions and campaigns to do a simple act of kindness in this day and age.
Humans are supposed to be the most ‘intelligent’ creatures on this planet, yet all I see is stupidity, egotism and complete soullessness. Will we ever change.

Bina, Have hope that this will change. I believe that what we put our energy into increases. I see many who care as you do. We need to keep the rescue efforts of suffering animals out in the open and the number of people showing their love will continue to grow. Progress may be slow but our numbers ARE growing.

Thank you for rescuing Nosey but it amazes me how people are allowed to abuse animals and get away with it for such a very long time! ! The lawmakers have to change the rules on abuse and quickly take these animals away from an abusive situation. The laws protect the abusers more than innocent animals! !!!!

This abuse has been going on for years. The FDA was aware of it 20 years ago. With over 200 charges against Liebel why wasen’t something done 10 – 15 – 20 years ago when she needed it? Maybe we need someone in the FDA that really care

What is the chance that Liebel will go to court to demand his property (Nosey) be returned to him? If he doesn’t get Nosey back, will he simply replace her with another elephant, for a life of abuse, like Nosey endured? I hope someone will keep an eye on this pathetic excuse for a human, and ensure that he NEVER gets his tainted hands on another elephant again.

I have signed petitions for Nosey’s release for over a decade. Why was something not done sooner?
