Cancel Rodeo Event That Rips Tails Off Bulls

Target: Jefferson County, Colorado local government

Goal: Stop the cruel “coleadero” event in which bulls experience broken or dismembered tails.

A coleadero, also known as steer tailing, is an event in which a bull is tortured and pulled by his tail until he rams into the ground. Jefferson County is one of the only locations in the United States that has hosted a coleadero and it sounds like another one may occur if steps aren’t taken now to ban the practice. Animal suffering should never be considered a form of entertainment. It is time to permanently stop this unnecessary cruelty by passing a law banning this sick practice.

During the event, a man on horseback chases a bull while he twists and distorts the bull’s tail to try to force the animal into the ground. The bull’s tail often breaks and sometimes is even dismembered. The bulls are not the only ones in danger during this event. Horses often get injured due to the high chances of painful collisions and getting bucked by the bull. The animals are often left to suffer with no form of veterinary care.

Sign this petition to demand that Jefferson County pass a law to permanently ban this cruel event. This event shows some of the ugliest sides of humanity, and it is time to stop abusing animals for entertainment.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Officials,

A coleadero has taken place in your county and may occur again soon. During a coleadero, a man on horseback chases and terrorizes a scared bull. The cowboy will yank, twist and distort the bull’s tail until the bull runs himself into the ground. The tail often breaks and sometimes is even dismembered. This is animal cruelty.

Please put an end to this cruel event by passing an ordinance banning the practice. Animal suffering should not be considered entertainment, and it is time to stop this unnecessary cruelty.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

Who cares to watch ANIMALS TORTURED…THERE IS NO PLEASURE IN THIS ….BAN RODEO … LET THE DEMONIC MEN CHASE EACH OTHER ON HORSES AND HAVE THEIR MEMBER PULLED OFF…

  2. christine warman says:

Time these outdated so called entertainment was stopped, I thought the USA was supposed to a wonderful place, certainly not for any animals it seems.

  3. Darlene Avery says:

What a vile form of “entertainment”. No animal should ever be used for our entertainment, and this is so despicable, torturing innocent animals?? What an horrendous atrocity. Stop this horrific event now.

  4. I didn’t think Colorado was that backward. I hope this Ms. Melonakis has a heart and a brain.

  5. What kind of people can be entertained by barbarism??? Really a sick society + a whole lot of craziness – and those poor animals being degraded + terrorised for pleasure – STOP THIS PERVERSITY – people like this need to be told the difference btw right and wrong????? Scarey – we are not safe on this planet as long as this is condoned

  6. Doris Alpern says:

This is not entertainment. This is barbaric torture to an innocent animal. It needs to be stopped. You should be teaching your children that it is wrong to injure and cause pain pain to all animals.

  7. While it is true that Mexico has an unenlightened, cruelisimo component with a sick, sick idea of “malehood”, it is equally true that we have a huge group of backward, cruel and brutal people, ethic and traditions here in the US that tolerates the belittlement and torture of animals as well. Without this, there could be no importation of cruel rodeo practices from Mexico. And there are groups in Mexico that are working tirelessly to change these attitudes and practices in Mexico. These people are among the best, the kindest and bravest people there are on the planet. Support them, do not criticize everyone for the bastardization of what it is to be a human by a relative few. Stand up for animals and those who strive to protect them all over the globe. They are the best; they are everywhere. You’ll see.

  8. Nobody has the right to do this to an animal -Stop this horrific cruelty now and anyone who attends to watch this kind of thing is no better than the person actually doing itin my eyes! You should all be ashamed this isn’t entertainment just downright animal abuse

  9. I will never understand how anyone can attend anything like this! Only monsters could find something like this entertaining! People are sick and beyond cruel. I feel like I don’t even belong in this world,

No town, No state, No country….NO INDIVIDUAL should be willing to even allow such a heinous thing to happen… Much less be a willing participant!!! The people from Adams County, Colorado are really showing their true colors, if this is the way they entertain themselves!!! How much more twisted and distorted can one’s mind and thinking possibly be??? Ripping the tail off of a bull?!!! There MUST BE some decent people in the community there…. People with a backbone??? People that should not have to be coerced into stopping this horrific and barbaric practice by petitions?
If you must abuse something that is “alive” for your own entertainment…I have a much better idea for you cowboys!!! 🙂 And I feel quite sure that it would remain most competitive for you! First, you need to be punished severely for abusing and torturing these poor innocent and helpless bulls (also any other animals that you abuse)! Then you need to be forced back into the game (without the use of any animals) and made to rip your own penises off!!! Now, what a trophy that would be, huh?!!!
How can anybody with a brain support an event like this??? It is plain and simple…animal abuse.

  11. Sick twisted barbaric bastards . Ban this vile act immediatly .

  12. Eric Mills says:

“Steer tailing” (aka “coleadero” or “colas”) is one of nine standard scored events of the Mexican-style rodeo called “charreada,” common throughout the American Southwest, and spreading. Charreada is the national sport of Mexico.

That said, the event IS brutal. I worked on a case near Denver a few years back in which seven steers had their tails stripped to the bone (“degloved”) in one afternoon. Two others suffered a broken leg and broken pelvis, and had to be euthanized. (NOTE: It’s generally STEERS, not bulls, used in this event.)

Back in 1993, I was able to convince the Alameda County Board of Supervisors (Oakland/Berkeley area) to pass an ordinance banning both “steer tailing” and “horse tripping.” I would urge Coloradans to pass both state and local laws banning this brutal activity. To my knowledge, only NEBRASKA has outlawed both “steer tailing” and “horse tripping.” We need a national ban.

Be prepared to be called a “racist,” since it’s only Mexican-Americans who practice this event. Even Cesar Chavez was an outspoken critic.

AND THIS: Petitions rarely accomplish anything. Far better to meet with your legislators, attend meetings, and write letters. Ask your local newspapers to run pro-animal editorials.

  13. I think some determined sharp-shooter might hide in the shadows at rodeos and pick off every “cowboy,” “cowgirl” and rodeo judge they possibly can. That might send an unequivocal message about torturing so-called “livestock” and think twice about holding these psychopathic thug-fests anywhere at ALL.

  14. Ken Discount says:

They should take these guys that do that to the bull f****** Ram their head up their ass cut their f****** balls off and shove them down their f****** throat m************

  15. barbara diaz says:

THIS MUST BE OUTLAWED. IT IS ANIMAL TERRORISM. IF THESE MACHO MEN WANT TO TEAR SOMETHING OFF A LIVING CREATURE, WHY NOT SACRIFICE THEIR OWN BODY PARTS. ENOUGH OF THIS CRUEL AND VILE TRADITION. CHARREADA TAIL REMOVAL IS A CRIME.

  16. Mary Smith says:

The horse “riders” run arounf the rodeo “ring, minus horses and steers. The men are naked, at least from the waist down. They chase each other and
attempt to pull on and rip each others penis off, until the victim of this brutality is brought to the ground. A much less cowardly event, than using horses and steer that would never volunteer for this cruel event. Man against man. A level playing field. Humans using humans for entertainment and amusement……

  17. Lorraine Stanley says:

What. Are these people living in. The middle ages what savages!!

  18. Jaime Perez says:

What else can man think up to torture and harm innocent animals? This is so sick and twisted. I can’t even imagine the pain and horror these poor animals go through. This crap needs to be banned. Humans are disgusting!

WTF is wrong with these yahoos?
