Target: Marco Lambertini, Director General of World Wildlife Fund International
Goal: Thank the World Wildlife Federation for helping to bring poachers to justice.
Thanks to new technology, over two dozen poachers have been arrested in Africa since 2016. Combined with a human detection software program, modern infrared cameras are able to detect the location of poachers at night by their body heat. People and animals appear white on the cameras, while things such as bushes and trees appear gray. Rangers can search for poachers any time of day or night for up to a mile away. These extraordinary cameras were put in place by the (WWF) World Wildlife Fund after they were awarded a $5 million dollar grant by Google. As a result, the Wildlife Crime Technology Project was born, and rangers are finally able to severely crackdown on poaching. Drones with infrared cameras will soon also be used for this purpose.
Such actions could not have been possible without the help of the ForceChange community and other heroic activists. Thank the WWF for helping to put poachers behind bars and –in turn—helping to save many majestic creatures from an unthinkable fate. If we continue to work together, it is possible that many animal species will soon no longer be at risk of becoming extinct.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Director General Lambertini,
Thanks to the new infrared cameras and software program that you helped develop for rangers in Africa to utilize, many poachers have been captured and placed behind bars. It is great news that rangers are now able to locate poachers in pitch black by simply looking for a white image on their screen. It is fantastic that they are also able to locate these potential law breakers from up to a mile away. We are further ecstatic to learn that drones with infrared cameras will soon additionally be used for this purpose. Without your forward thinking and preventative actions, many more animals would likely die at the hands of callous people.
If organizations and activists continue to work together in order to solve this problem and other similar issues, many animals may soon be able to be taken off of the endangered species list. Thank you again for helping to bring poachers to justice. We stand with you in doing whatever possible to end the tremendous struggle that numerous wildlife species face.
Sincerely,
