Goal: Determine who shot Rosie in the neck with an air gun and ensure meaningful legal consequences if deliberate animal cruelty is established.
Rosie returned to her home in Whitchurch-on-Thames in severe distress after spending a brief period outdoors. The family cat was staggering and disoriented, with localized bleeding that immediately alarmed her owner. Emergency veterinary X-rays revealed the cause: a high-velocity metal air-gun pellet was embedded deep inside her neck, dangerously close to vital structures.
Veterinary surgeons successfully operated to remove the pellet. Rosie survived, but she requires continued medical monitoring and treatment while recovering from her injuries. No suspect has been identified. The RSPCA believes the incident may have occurred close to Rosie’s home because she typically does not wander far from the property. Investigators therefore have a relatively concentrated area in which to seek evidence.
CCTV, smart-doorbell recordings and dashboard-camera footage from surrounding streets could establish where the shot originated and identify whoever discharged the weapon. Investigators should also seek information from residents who may have heard an air weapon being fired or noticed someone carrying one. If evidence establishes that Rosie was deliberately targeted, meaningful accountability must follow.

No perpetrator has been identified, and investigators have not established whether Rosie was intentionally targeted. Please support every reasonable effort to determine what happened. Relevant CCTV, doorbell recordings, dashboard-camera footage and firsthand witness information could reveal where the weapon was discharged and who was responsible.
If evidence demonstrates that someone deliberately shot Rosie, please ensure that the strongest appropriate legal consequences are pursued. Discharging an air weapon in circumstances capable of injuring an animal can also create serious risks beyond the immediate victim. Rosie survived a projectile embedded dangerously inside her neck. The person responsible should not escape accountability if deliberate cruelty is proven.
