Justice for Mice Allegedly Frozen Alive and Subject to Torturous Experimentation

Target: David D. McManus, Chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Chan School of Medicine

Goal: Seek appropriate punishment for those allegedly involved in torturous and ineffective animal experimentation at UMass Chan.

Recent reports have uncovered horrifying practices occurring at the University of Massachusetts Chan School of Medicine (UMass Chan), where allegedly negligent and abusive methods in animal experimentation have resulted in immense suffering for countless mice. Experimenter Milena Bogunovic, who has reportedly taken nearly $5 million in federal funding, has been linked to dismal welfare standards after her staff were allegedly caught euthanizing mice improperly on multiple occasions. Instances of allegedly freezing mice alive and cramming too many into euthanasia chambers illustrate a blatant disregard for animal suffering and well-being.

In addition to these apparent horrifying euthanasia practices, Bogunovic’s experiments themselves are deeply troubling. Mice are reportedly subjected to painful procedures that induce severe intestinal diseases and other distressing conditions. Alleged procedures involving invasive tubes being shoved down their throats and unnecessary surgical interventions inflict unnecessary pain and suffering without justifiable scientific benefit. Current evidence suggests that these experiments lack relevance or applicability to human health, rendering the suffering imposed on these animals incomprehensible and unjustifiable.

The continuation of such cruel practices undermines ethical research standards and diminishes scientific integrity. It is imperative that those involved in these alleged instances of animal cruelty are held accountable for their actions. Support this petition to demand that UMass Chan enforces appropriate punishment against Milena Bogunovic and her associates for their reprehensible treatment of animals and ceases to endorse such inhumane research methods.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Chancellor McManus,

The continued reports of inhumane treatment and negligence towards animals at UMass Chan are both alarming and unacceptable. Allegations of impropriety surrounding Milena Bogunovic and her staff, specifically those involving numerous instances of improper euthanasia and excessively painful experimental procedures, have surfaced, raising serious questions about the institution’s commitment to animal welfare and ethical research practices. These actions reportedly inflicted extreme suffering on countless mice and have been met with inadequate response measures from the administration.

The cruel techniques seemingly employed, such as force-feeding mice tubes and purposefully inducing painful intestinal diseases, highlight an urgent need for reassessment of the laboratory practices at UMass Chan. The notion of sacrificing animal welfare under the guise of scientific advancement is not only misguided but ethically indefensible. The studies conducted by Bogunovic have apparently failed to produce valuable scientific information, suggesting that these methods deeply fail both the animals involved and the larger scientific community.

It is essential that immediate action be taken to hold those responsible accountable for their actions. We respectfully urge you to enforce appropriate penalties against Milena Bogunovic and her colleagues. Additionally, we demand a thorough review of research practices at UMass Chan to ensure that such reprehensible treatment of animals never occurs again.

Sincerely,
