Cat Colony Reportedly Put at Risk as Construction Begins Without Relocation: Demand Protection

Target: Fernando Germán Benítez Pérez-Fajardo, Provincial Prosecutor responsible for animal welfare enforcement in Málaga, Spain

Goal: Halt construction activities that allegedly endanger a registered cat colony and ensure proper relocation under veterinary supervision before work continues.

A registered colony of cats is reportedly being placed at serious risk after construction work began without relocating them from their established habitat. According to a complaint, the animals may now be exposed to danger as heavy work continues in an area where they live, raising urgent concerns about their safety and survival.

Reports indicate that the site, an outdoor car park area, is undergoing adaptation work that may be disrupting the cats’ environment. The complaint states that those responsible may have failed to relocate the colony under veterinary supervision and without proper authorisation. A veterinary report warns that such actions could pose a potential and irreversible risk to the cats, including the possibility that they may flee, abandon their kittens or suffer harm.

Further concern arises from claims that some of the cats may have already disappeared. While other organisations have  stated that efforts are being made to minimise the impact and ensure safety, the existence of conflicting accounts makes it essential that the situation is independently examined. Authorities must act swiftly to determine whether the animals are being placed at risk and to ensure their protection before irreversible harm occurs.

PETITION LETTER:

Prosecutor Fernando Germán Benítez Pérez-Fajardo,

This petition concerns a situation in which a registered cat colony is reportedly being endangered by ongoing construction work that may have begun without proper relocation measures. Reports suggest that the animals may have remained in the area while work proceeded, raising serious concerns about their safety and well-being.

According to the complaint, the responsible parties may have not relocated the colony under veterinary supervision or obtained the necessary authorisation. A veterinary assessment indicates that this situation could pose a potential and irreversible risk to the cats, including the possibility that they may reportedly flee or abandon their young. There are also reports suggesting that some cats may have already disappeared.

We respectfully urge your office to thoroughly investigate whether these animals are being placed at risk and to take immediate action to ensure their protection. If any wrongdoing is established, appropriate legal measures must be pursued, and construction activities should be suspended until the safety of the colony is fully secured.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
