Newborn Puppies Allegedly Dead After Being Sold While Still Blind: Take Action

Target: Shamila Batohi, National Director of Public Prosecutions, South Africa

Goal: Ensure full investigation and prosecution of alleged illegal puppy selling and neglect leading to the deaths of newborn puppies.

A deeply troubling case has come to light after twelve newborn puppies were reportedly found being sold while their eyes were still closed and they were far too young to survive without their mother. According to animal welfare inspectors, the puppies were separated prematurely, denied essential care, and placed in a situation that posed immediate and serious risks to their lives.

Animal welfare officials stated that the puppies were discovered following a public report and were assessed to be only days old. Inspectors determined that the puppies should still have been nursing and receiving protection from their mother. Due to their extremely young age and deteriorating condition, officials said the animals had to be humanely euthanised, a tragic outcome.

Cases like this highlight the severe consequences of irresponsible breeding, abandonment, and the roadside sale of animals without regard for welfare laws. This petition calls for firm legal action to ensure accountability, discourage illegal animal sales, and prevent further suffering caused by similar practices.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Director Batohi,

We are writing to express grave concern regarding reports that newborn puppies were sold while still blind and separated from their mother, ultimately resulting in their deaths. According to animal welfare inspectors, the puppies were far too young to survive independently and were placed in conditions that posed immediate danger to their health and wellbeing.

The reported circumstances suggest serious neglect and a disregard for basic animal welfare principles, including the responsibility to prevent unwanted litters through sterilisation and to protect vulnerable animals from harm. When animals are treated as disposable commodities, the consequences are devastating and irreversible.

We respectfully urge your office to ensure that this matter is fully investigated and that all applicable legal provisions are enforced. Strong prosecution is essential to deter illegal animal sales, uphold animal welfare laws, and send a clear message that neglect leading to the suffering and death of animals will not be tolerated.

Sincerely,
