Dog Abandoned Near Cemetery With Severe Neck and Throat Injuries: Seek Justice

Target: Mimi Rocah, Westchester County District Attorney, Westchester County, New York

Goal: Identify and prosecute the individual responsible for abandoning and severely injuring a young dog in Yonkers.

A deeply disturbing case has come to light after a one-year-old mixed-breed puppy was found abandoned near Oakland Cemetery in Yonkers with life-threatening injuries. Surveillance footage captured the dog being dumped near 44 Saw Mill River Road. The puppy, now named Frankie, was later located in critical condition.

Frankie was rushed to a local animal hospital, where veterinarians discovered a deeply infected and painful laceration to his neck and throat that exposed underlying tissue. Emergency surgery lasting approximately two hours was required to save his life. In addition to the severe wound, Frankie was found to be extremely underweight, indicating prolonged neglect prior to his abandonment.

SPCA Westchester’s Humane Law Enforcement Unit is now conducting a joint investigation with the Yonkers Police Department. A $1,000 reward is being offered by the New York State Humane Association for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. This case represents a serious act of cruelty that endangered the life of a defenseless animal and has shaken the local community. Sign below to demand accountability.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear District Attorney Rocah,

We are writing to express grave concern regarding the abandonment and severe injury of a young dog found near Oakland Cemetery in Yonkers. The dog was captured on camera being dumped and was later discovered with a deeply infected neck and throat wound that exposed underlying tissue and required emergency surgery to survive.

Veterinary professionals have stated that without immediate medical intervention, this dog would likely have died from his injuries. The additional evidence of extreme underweight condition further suggests sustained neglect prior to abandonment. Such actions reflect a level of cruelty that demands serious legal consequences.

We respectfully urge your office to work closely with law enforcement to identify the individual responsible and pursue all applicable animal cruelty charges. Strong prosecution is essential to secure justice for this animal, deter future acts of abuse, and reaffirm that severe neglect and abandonment will not be tolerated in Westchester County.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
