Sanctuary Animals Killed and Displaced After Roof Collapse: Demand Support

Target: Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council, West Midlands, England

Goal: Provide urgent emergency funding and structural support after storm damage displaced animals and destroyed sanctuary enclosures.

An animal sanctuary that has served its community for two decades was severely damaged after heavy snowfall caused multiple large enclosures to collapse. The weight of the snow brought down five structures, forcing staff to urgently relocate ducks, chickens, and geese to safer areas. One duck died following the collapse, underscoring the seriousness of the situation.

Sanctuary staff have described the incident as one of the darkest moments in their history. Repairs are extensive, and the site requires tens of thousands of pounds to restore safe and secure housing for the animals. While community members and local businesses have generously stepped forward with donations, materials, and labour, the scale of the damage exceeds what grassroots support alone can resolve.

Animal sanctuaries play a vital public role by rescuing and caring for vulnerable animals. When extreme weather causes sudden devastation, timely institutional support becomes essential. This petition calls for immediate assistance, safety assessments, and financial aid to help restore the sanctuary and protect the animals currently relying on temporary arrangements.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Council Leaders,

We are writing to urge immediate support for an animal sanctuary that has suffered severe structural damage after heavy snowfall caused multiple enclosures to collapse. Animals were displaced across the site and one duck was killed, highlighting the urgent need for repairs and improved safety measures.

The sanctuary has served the local community for many years and provides ongoing care to numerous animals. While public donations and volunteer efforts have been generous, the cost of restoring safe enclosures is substantial and cannot reasonably be met without institutional assistance.

We respectfully ask the council to provide emergency funding, technical assessments, and any available disaster relief support. Swift action will help ensure animal welfare, prevent further losses, and preserve a valued community resource that has cared for animals for decades.

Sincerely,
