End Rodeo Cruelty After Horse Allegedly Collapsed and Never Rose

Target: Summer Stephan, San Diego County, CA District Attorney

Goal: Halt rodeo events that allegedly cause severe animal suffering and pursue accountability for unlawful cruelty.

Reports describe an upcoming rodeo event that is facing a serious legal challenge over alleged animal cruelty. According to court filings, the rodeo is accused of involving practices that inflict needless suffering on animals for entertainment. These allegations have intensified following reports from a prior event of a horse crashing into a fence at full speed, collapsed, and was never able to stand again.

Internal records later revealed that public statements about the horse’s condition were allegedly misleading. The animal was reportedly transported out on a sled, kept overnight at an animal facility, and released despite being unable to walk and given a very poor prognosis by a veterinarian. It has further been alleged that no X-rays were taken. These purported facts have raised significant concerns about transparency, animal welfare, and public safety.

Animal protection advocates argue that these alleged practices violate state law prohibiting needless suffering. The case also highlights reports of roping calves at full speed, violently slamming them to the ground, twisting steers’ necks, forcing animals to buck using straps, and using pregnant mares in dangerous events. This petition calls for decisive intervention to stop practices that allegedly harm animals under the guise of sport.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear DA Stephan,

We are writing to express deep concern surrounding rodeo events that reportedly involve violent and harmful treatment of animals. As alleged in ongoing litigation, certain rodeo practices may constitute needless suffering prohibited under California law.

Of particular concern are reports that a horse collapsed after crashing into a fence and never recovered, alongside allegations that the public was misled about the animal’s condition and veterinary care. Additional reports describe calves and steers being roped, slammed, and twisted with force, as well as animals being made to buck through the use of straps, sometimes with catastrophic results.

We respectfully urge your office to fully review these allegations and take appropriate action to protect animals from purported cruelty. Please use your authority to enforce the law, pursue accountability where warranted, and prevent future events that allegedly place animals at serious risk.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
