A Hawaii encampment has become the scene for a series of disturbing assaults against defenseless dogs. A puppy was shot in the spine. The young dog – whom rescuers named Pretzel — later underwent surgery. While Pretzel survived, another puppy who had been shot in the same area weeks earlier was tragically not as fortunate.
Recently, yet another dog became the victim of cruelty in Kapolei. This canine was older and blind. He endured more than a dozen BB shots in various parts of his body, leading investigators to believe the dog may have been used as target practice. In a possibly related incident, good Samaritans rescued four puppies from this area – all of whom will be rehomed.
Authorities are searching for suspects, and animal welfare advocates have called for stronger animal cruelty laws in the wake of this serious string of cases. Sign the petition below to join their pleas for urgent reform.

Dear Speaker Nakamura,
A series of highly disturbing shootings and other abuses of puppies and dogs recently took place in Kapolei. Since these incidents unfolded in roughly the same region, authorities fear a serial animal abuser may be at work. When and if this case is solved, what will happen then?
Animal lovers are pleading for more stringent statewide animal cruelty laws. Please take up their cause and send a decisive message that these heinous crimes will not be dismissed nor tolerated.
