Prosecute Illegal Bullfights and Cockfights That Stab, Mutilate, and Torment Animals

Target: Luz Adriana Camargo Garzón, Fiscal General de la Nación, Bogotá, Colombia

Goal: Enforce Colombia’s ban on bullfighting, cockfighting, and steer-tailing and seek maximum penalties for any violations.

Colombia has drawn a bright line against blood sports that stab, maim, and terrorize animals for entertainment. Bullfighting, cockfighting, steer-tailing, and related spectacles inflict fear, pain, crushed bodies, broken tails, and death. These practices also endanger the public and normalize violence. A historic national ban now recognizes that torment is not culture.

Strong laws require strong enforcement. Illegal events can spring up in hidden arenas, rural rings, or pop-up venues, pulling in gambling, weapons, and organized profiteers. Promoters, venue operators, financiers, and participants all play roles. A decisive, coordinated response—backed by visible prosecutions and meaningful penalties—will shut down cruelty and deter copycats.

This moment calls for proactive action: aggressive investigations, rapid seizures of equipment and animals, public reporting channels, and consistent charging decisions across departments. Sign below to demand clear guidance from national prosecutors to align police, environmental agencies, and municipal authorities to deliver swift justice. The law is clear; enforcement should be too.

PETITION LETTER:

Fiscal General Camargo,

Colombia has outlawed bullfighting, cockfighting, steer-tailing, and similar spectacles that cause extreme animal suffering and threaten public safety. We urge your office to lead robust, nationwide enforcement of this ban and to seek the maximum penalties allowed against anyone who violates it.

Please prioritize these cases with coordinated strategies: issue guidance to regional prosecutors; establish a dedicated reporting and tip line; direct swift, multi-agency operations to disrupt planned events; and pursue comprehensive charges that reach promoters, venue operators, marketers, transporters, and financiers—not only arena participants. When appropriate, seek fines, incarceration, restitution for animal care, forfeiture of proceeds, bans on animal ownership or handling, and publicized compliance orders.

Clear, consistent enforcement will deter future cruelty, safeguard communities, and honor Colombia’s commitment to protect animals from violence masquerading as entertainment. Thank you for your leadership in ensuring that the ban is fully realized in practice—not just on paper.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
