42 Dogs Reportedly Caged in Feces-Filled Crates Without Food: Demand Justice

Target: David M. Stumbo, Solicitor, Eighth Judicial Circuit, Laurens County, South Carolina

Goal: Impose the longest prison terms and lifetime animal-ownership bans on the individuals who allegedly confined 42 dogs in stacked, waste-soaked cages and denied them basic care.

Deputies responding to a late-night call about child and animal mistreatment reportedly walked into a scene of overwhelming stench and suffering. Dozens of dogs were allegedly crammed into tiny, stacked crates whose trays overflowed with feces, bile, and urine. Many of the animals were reportedly battling raw skin conditions, flea infestations, and intestinal parasites—signs of prolonged neglect. Investigators say these dehydrated, food-less dogs had no way to escape their own waste.

According to authorities, more dogs were discovered in a separate structure on the property under similarly deplorable conditions. Children living onsite were reportedly seen walking barefoot through floors smeared with animal excrement, and deputies documented additional evidence of unlawful conduct toward a child. Two adults now face charges of ill treatment of animals and unlawful conduct toward a child, but their initial bond was set at just $15,000—far below what many consider sufficient for the alleged cruelty inflicted on 42 dogs and a rabbit.

A strong judicial response is urgently needed. Meaningful incarceration, mandatory counseling, and permanent bans on animal ownership would recognize the severity of the alleged offenses and help deter repeat abuse. Sign below to demand greater accountability to affirm the community’s commitment to protecting both vulnerable animals and children from dangerous environments.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Solicitor Stumbo,

Deputies from the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office reportedly discovered 42 dogs and one rabbit confined in stacked crates, their paws soaked in layers of feces, bile, and urine. Many of these dogs allegedly suffered flea infestations, intestinal parasites, and skin diseases consistent with prolonged neglect. Even more distressing, children in the same residence were reportedly forced to walk barefoot across floors coated in animal waste.

These facts describe extreme, ongoing cruelty that jeopardized both animal and human welfare. A modest bond does not reflect the magnitude of the alleged harm. We respectfully urge your office to pursue the maximum prison sentences permissible under South Carolina law, to seek lifetime prohibitions on animal ownership for both defendants, and to advocate for court-ordered psychological evaluation and counseling.

By prosecuting this case to the fullest extent, you will help ensure justice for the 42 dogs who reportedly languished in filth and agony, protect children from similar environments, and send a clear message that Laurens County will not tolerate such abuse.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
