Despite the extensive injuries he apparently sustained, Rocky has made a remarkable recovery, regaining 90% of his mobility. After diligent investigation and tracking down surveillance footage of the alleged abuser, 29-year-old Benjamin Wilkins was arrested and is facing felony charges for animal torture and aggravated cruelty to animals. A strong community effort led to this initial step towards justice, but it is crucial that these charges lead to meaningful consequences.
The principles of justice necessitate appropriate punishment for those who engage in acts of cruelty towards animals. Abusing an innocent being like Rocky is a stark reminder of the urgent need for stricter enforcement of animal protection laws. It is imperative that the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office upholds justice by ensuring that alleged animal abuser Benjamin Wilkins receives a penalty commensurate with the severity of his crimes. Obviously this creature is brain damaged and therefore should be locked up in a high security institution for life. I pray for sweet Rocky to continue to heal and be with a proper family that will love him silly for the rest of his life, and appreciate him for who he is, and just let him be a happy dog. I hope his abuser rots in prison for the rest of his life at hard time, pays hefty, hefty fines, is never released since he will only do it again, and is beat up every day in prison, animal abusers don’t do well in prison, let him reap what he has created.
