Target: Raymond A. Tierney, District Attorney of Suffolk County, New York

Goal: Secure the maximum lawful penalties, restitution, and a lifelong animal-ownership ban for the suspect accused of keeping nearly 100 cats in filth and freezing dead kittens.

Authorities reportedly uncovered sixty-nine living cats and twenty-eight dead cats inside one residence after responding to complaints about overwhelming odors. As reported, about two dozen of the deceased were kittens wrapped and stored in a household freezer, while the rest of the animals—many suffering respiratory infections and eye disease—were scattered throughout a home soaked in urine and layered with feces. Investigators deemed the structure uninhabitable due to dangerously high ammonia levels.

The seventy-five-year-old homeowner has surrendered and now faces multiple misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty and neglect. Yet the reported scale of suffering—including three cats later euthanized because of severe illness—suggests prolonged, systemic disregard for life. Rescue workers describe floors so spongy with urine that they collapsed underfoot and walls sprayed with waste, painting a grim picture of daily torment for these animals.

Strong, exemplary prosecution–and psychiatric help for the accused if warranted–is essential to honor the victims, cover veterinary costs, and deter similar large-scale hoarding tragedies. Sign below to demand a harsh sentence, full restitution, mandatory mental-health intervention, and a permanent prohibition on keeping animals.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear District Attorney Tierney,

According to Suffolk County SPCA investigators, a single residence housed sixty-nine ailing cats and twenty-eight dead cats—including about two dozen kittens reportedly found wrapped inside a freezer. The surviving animals were reportedly discovered amid floors soaked in urine, walls fouled by feces, and air so saturated with ammonia that officials condemned the structure.

These allegations indicate prolonged neglect that inflicted misery on scores of sentient beings. Three cats have already been euthanized due to the severity of their conditions, underscoring the reported magnitude of suffering. Such systemic cruelty erodes community trust and places an enormous burden on shelters now striving to heal and rehome the surviving animals.

We respectfully urge your office to pursue the maximum penalties allowed by New York law, including substantial jail time, significant fines, restitution for every dollar of veterinary and shelter care, mandatory mental-health evaluation, and a lifetime ban on animal ownership for the defendant. A decisive response will affirm that mass animal neglect and death carry serious consequences and will help prevent future tragedies.

Sincerely,

Those who abuse animals should be prosecuted as if their crime was committed to a person. Let’s see, it is 75, so a sentence of 30 years seems appropriate.

What type of person is happy to live in “….a home soaked in urine and layered with feces” that is “uninhabitable”? This homeowner is obviously mentally unwell and is animal hoarder, who has NO regard for the wellbeing and health of the animals. NO animal is safe with this person. DON’T let this person own another animal – EVER.
