Demand Justice for Horses Reportedly Found Starving and Dead

Target: Cascade County District Attorney

Goal: Ensure appropriate punishment for those allegedly responsible for leaving horses to starve and die.

In a distressing incident that has shocked animal welfare advocates and residents alike, two horses were reportedly found in a state of severe neglect in Cascade County, Montana. Following a complaint regarding horses in distress, deputies say they discovered not only two underweight horses but also the remains of two others that perished due to neglect. The images are haunting: one rescuer described arriving at the scene to find a deceased pony with its eyes missing, highlighting the tragic extent of neglect these animals faced as reported by witnesses.

The surviving horses, now under the care of Montana Horse Sanctuary, appeared to be on the brink of death, leading rescuers to fear for their lives without immediate intervention. The former owner of these horses, Susan Kay Jones, reportedly admitted to neglecting them for at least a week, although assessments suggest the situation had persisted much longer. Despite being charged with animal cruelty, an offense classified as a misdemeanor in Montana, it raises a troubling question about the adequacy of penalties for those who inflict such suffering on animals. The current legal framework fails to reflect the severity of such actions, particularly when neglect results in death.

There is an urgent need for tougher penalties for animal neglect to ensure that similar cases do not occur again in the future. It is imperative that the Cascade County legal system sends a strong message against animal cruelty and holds those responsible accountable for their actions. Therefore, this petition demands that appropriate and substantial penalties are imposed on those allegedly responsible for the horrific neglect faced by these horses.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Cascade County District Attorney,

I am writing to bring attention to a deeply troubling case regarding the alleged neglect and abuse of horses in Cascade County. Recent reports suggest that two horses were discovered in dire condition, alongside the remains of two others that died from neglect. Witnesses described a harrowing scene where deceased animals showed horrific signs of suffering, with one noted to have been so severely decomposed that its eyes were missing. The severity of the apparent neglect raises serious concerns about the legal implications and necessary consequences for those involved.

The former owner, Susan Kay Jones, has reportedly admitted to animal cruelty yet faced minimal penalties, as animal cruelty in Montana is currently classified as a misdemeanor. This demonstrates an alarming gap in the legal system when serious neglect leads to the death of innocent animals. The surviving horses, despite being rescued, reportedly continue to suffer the long-term effects of their ordeal, and the community stands united in demanding justice for these animals who cannot speak for themselves.

It is essential for the Cascade County legal system to ensure that anyone who engages in such reprehensible acts faces substantial consequences. Such actions not only harm the animals but also reflect poorly on community standards regarding animal welfare. Therefore, we urge you to take action and impose appropriate punishment for those allegedly responsible for this heart-wrenching case of neglect.

Sincerely,

  4. This just makes me sick that animals died from neglect and 2 others were close to death. These horses were let down so bad and the person responsible needs to get the harshest punishment you can give her. And throw in a lifetime ban on ever owning animals again! You need stronger animal welfare laws!

Susan Kay Jones is lucky she lives in Montana where animal cruelty is only a misdemeanor! I hate that freaking state – no respect for innocent animals at all! That evil bitch needs to be starved to death!

    • Montana you need to step up change your laws stop the suffering of innocent animals that you are allowing to continue on its not a good look for your tourism industry! People don’t want to come vacation to give their hard earned dollars to a state that doesn’t severely punish animal abusers animal torturing sadly do you want to be known as the animal cruelty state? You must defend those voiceless animals crying out for your help now don’t let them suffer don’t continue to let them down any longer fight for them now!

Cascade County District Attorney, misdemeanor? Very weak. What can you do to get justice for these four innocent horses? Once magnificent animals that perpetrator could have surrendered at any time. This shows you the owner is mentally ill, needs help, and must NEVER own animals again. Or she us just plain evil. Will you pursue?

  8. Celia Read says:

Yes, indeed highly obnoxious & cruel behaviour by a person who should know very much better. It is the responsibility of humans to treat innocent animals with kindness & respect. In my view, there is no punishment sufficient for this deplorable person – other than to subject her to the same treatment so that she learns the lesson & it sends a message to others never to subject sentient beings to such wholly unnecessary cruelty. May karma teach her a severe lesson.

  9. Carolyn Ecton says:

Susan Kay Jones should be made to live out her scumbag life in one of those horrible cages she forced the horses to suffer in.

  11. SUSAN KAY JONES is a MURDERER!

  12. Stephanie Geyser says:

“….neglecting them for at least a week….” (as this woman claims) does NOT lead to severely underweight horses or ones with eyes missing. The woman is clearly lying. I say: starve HER to near death, to see if she likes it.

  13. Absolutely unacceptable. She needs to be locked up and pay a heavy fine . She should never be allowed to own or be around horses or ponies, donkeys , mules or any animal . What a pos human .

  14. Dolores Proubasta says:

Unless they are locked up, Horses are quite visible. Their state of neglect is apparent to by passers, neighbors, visitors to the “owner” … Why doesn’t anyone report the monster to the authorities? And why are there no animal “patrols” in rural areas where Horses and other large animals are common, to do something before so much suffering and death occur? We can’t get rid of vicious, careless, incompetent, stupid, etc. people like S.K. Jones, but we can watch them to prevent the horrors they cause.

  15. Starvation has got to be one of the worst ways to slowly die especially when there’s a quick easy solution to save them its called food every living thing requires it! Doesnt cost a million dollars no vet bills just simple necessities like water and food! This is a disgusting crime that must be punished to the fullest extent of the law this sick poor excuse for a human being woman showed no remorse no concern no kindness for her animals whatsoever she didnt give damn why should we show remorse she must be incarcerated for a very long time with very little food or water in a rat infested tiny dark prison cell with lifers that have nothing to lose! Enough with the animal cruelty the sadistic animal torture the cruel animal starvation! Stop this now save these suffering animals that look to us for love kindness and care…

  17. I am not even sure why the state of Montana would even allow the atrocities! These horses have no one to talk for them… and yet you don’t seem to give a damn.. WHY IS THAT!!!! Maybe you all should be given the same treatment.. seems like a fair enough comparison.. if you can’t do anything about this then maybe the state shouldn’t be allowed to have horses!

  18. Joseph Kenosky says:

Execute the subhumans responsible for this.
