End the Puppy Mill-Pet Store Pipeline

Target: Joe Lombardo, Governor of Nevada

Goal: Ban the sale of puppies in pet stores and end the pipeline from puppy mills.

An undercover investigation by the Humane Society of the United States has reportedly revealed alarming conditions in several Nevada pet stores, including neglect, improper veterinary care, and ties to puppy mills. Puppies at these stores allegedly suffered from untreated illnesses and were subjected to unsafe practices, causing immense suffering.

One particularly heartbreaking case involved Cindy Lou, a Havanese puppy allegedly left untreated for severe illness at Puppy Heaven in Las Vegas. Despite Cindy showing signs of distress, the store manager apparently failed to seek veterinary care. Humane agents intervened, but tragically, Cindy Lou passed away. Her image was later posted on social media with false claims that she had been adopted.

Other cases detailed similarly disturbing practices. At Puppies for Less, a Chihuahua named Drumstick was reportedly force-fed and treated with a makeshift nebulizer while struggling to breathe. Employees purportedly admitted that many puppies sold at the store became ill, leaving buyers with significant veterinary bills. Investigators allegedly linked these stores to puppy mills cited in the HSUS’s “Horrible Hundred” report for severe neglect.

By passing Cindy Lou’s Law, the state can ban the sale of puppies in pet stores, cutting off the pipeline from inhumane puppy mills and encouraging ethical pet adoption options. Sign below and demand that Nevada take decisive action to address these allegations and protect vulnerable animals.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Governor Lombardo

Recent reports from the Humane Society of the United States have brought to light shocking allegations of neglect and mistreatment in Nevada pet stores. Puppies reportedly endured untreated illnesses, unsafe handling, and substandard living conditions. One heartbreaking case involved Cindy Lou, a Havanese puppy who died after allegedly being denied proper veterinary care.

Many of these stores are reportedly tied to puppy mills with a history of severe neglect. These allegations point to systemic issues that prioritize profit over the wellbeing of animals, leaving them to suffer and placing unsuspecting consumers at risk of heartbreak and financial burden.

Nevada has an opportunity to lead the way in preventing such cruelty. We urge you to pass Cindy Lou’s Law, banning the sale of puppies in pet stores and ending the pipeline from puppy mills. This legislation will protect animals, promote humane adoption practices, and send a clear message that neglect and cruelty have no place in this state.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
