Animals Rescued from Feces-Filled “Shelter” Demand Justice

Target: Gwen Howe-Gebers, Henry County, Ohio Prosecutor

Goal: Ensure maximum penalties for those responsible for alleged animal cruelty at an unfit animal rescue.

Body camera footage from a home in Napoleon, Ohio, operating as an animal rescue called Zesty Misfits, allegedly revealed shocking conditions. Deputies claim they found 28 animals living in an environment filled with feces, urine, and fresh blood, with a strong ammonia odor that made breathing difficult. The animals, reportedly in poor health, were removed from the home on December 10 by the Ohio Department of Agriculture and the Henry County Dog Warden.

Alexandria Rigg, who operated the rescue, faces five counts of Cruelty to Companion Animals. The video evidence and the statements of officials highlight the apparent appalling neglect these animals suffered. No animal deserves to endure such treatment, especially at a place claiming to provide care and safety.

This case is not only about holding the responsible party accountable but also about sending a clear message that neglect and cruelty will not be tolerated. Strong penalties are essential to deter future abuse and to emphasize the importance of proper standards in animal rescues.

We urge the Henry County Prosecutor to pursue the maximum penalties against the accused and to ensure that such facilities are regularly monitored to prevent similar tragedies. These animals deserve justice, and their suffering must not be ignored.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Prosecutor Gwen Howe-Gebers,

The recent case involving Zesty Misfits, an animal rescue facility in Napoleon, Ohio, has deeply disturbed animal advocates and the public alike. Body camera footage from the property apparently revealed unlivable conditions for the 28 animals found there, with feces, urine, fresh blood, and a suffocating ammonia odor permeating the home. Many of the animals were reportedly in poor health and have since been rescued.

This case seemingly represents a profound betrayal of trust. Facilities claiming to rescue and care for animals should be held to the highest standards, yet the conditions at this property appear to have caused immense suffering. Holding the responsible party fully accountable is critical, not only to ensure justice for the animals but also to prevent similar instances of cruelty in the future.

We respectfully request that you pursue the maximum penalties allowed by law against the accused. Furthermore, we encourage regular inspections and stricter regulations for animal rescue operations to ensure that facilities truly prioritize the well-being of the animals in their care.

Thank you for your dedication to justice and the protection of vulnerable animals.

Sincerely,
