Poisoned Stray Dogs Deserve Protection

Target: Mohammed Shahabuddin, President of Bangladesh

Goal: Advocate for strict enforcement of animal welfare laws and implementation of humane stray control measures to prevent the killing of stray animals.

The recent tragic incident in the Mohammadpur neighborhood of Japan Garden City, Dhaka, where several stray dogs were found poisoned to death, has raised serious concerns about animal welfare in Bangladesh. Despite existing laws like the 2019 Animal Welfare Act, which prohibits such acts, the lack of enforcement and prosecution allows perpetrators to act with impunity.

Concerns over disease, noise pollution, and aggression apparently fueled this massacre. Residents resorted to poisoning stray animals instead of adopting humane and sustainable solutions like reproductive sterilization, vaccination, and feeding programs. However, these cruel actions not only violate the law but also reflect a societal failure to value animal life.

Animal rights activists and concerned citizens have gathered to demand accountability and justice for these innocent animals. Authorities must take immediate action to investigate this incident thoroughly, enforce existing animal welfare laws, and implement effective, humane strategies for stray animal management. Work towards a society that respects all life and coexists peacefully with animals.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Mohammed Shahabuddin,

I am writing to express my deep concern over the recent reports of stray dogs being poisoned to death in the Mohammadpur neighborhood of Japan Garden City, Dhaka. This tragic incident highlights a serious disregard for animal welfare and a failure to enforce the existing 2019 Animal Welfare Act, which prohibits such cruel actions.

While concerns over stray animals are understandable, resorting to poisoning is both illegal and inhumane. There are effective and ethical alternatives available, such as reproductive sterilization, vaccination, and community-supported feeding programs, which can manage stray populations without causing unnecessary suffering.

I urge you to take immediate action to conduct a thorough investigation into the poisoning incidents, hold those responsible accountable under the law, and ensure strict enforcement of the 2019 Animal Welfare Act to prevent future acts of cruelty.

By taking these steps, Bangladesh can demonstrate its commitment to animal welfare and set a positive example for other nations. Protecting innocent animals from cruelty is not only a legal obligation but also a moral imperative that reflects the values of a compassionate society.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
