The puppy was left with serious injuries, including a fractured pelvis, after becoming trapped under a car wheel. Instead of seeking immediate veterinary assistance, the man neglected Diamond’s severe condition, causing her prolonged pain and suffering.
An RSPCA inspector visited the property after receiving a report of animal cruelty. Upon arrival, the inspector found Diamond struggling to stand, with a swollen hind leg and open wounds. The owner falsely claimed that the puppy’s injuries had healed and that she had been taken to a vet. Investigations revealed that he ignored strict instructions to seek further veterinary care and even attempted to hide Diamond from authorities.
Despite the severity of his actions, the man was only banned from owning animals for five years and fined just over $3,500, including court costs and fines. Many believe this punishment is too lenient, considering the prolonged suffering Diamond endured and his deliberate attempts to evade responsibility.
This case highlights a significant gap in the current animal protection laws, where penalties may not be sufficient to deter neglect and cruelty. Ensure justice for animals like Diamond to prevent similar cases in the future.
