In an alarming case of alleged animal cruelty, Josephine Ragland, a 28-year-old resident of Haddam, Connecticut, is facing four counts of animal abuse after police say she left multiple dogs in neglectful conditions. Among the reported victims was Charlie, a 3-year-old French bulldog whose family had entrusted Ragland with his training. Instead of properly caring for the dog, Ragland allegedly left Charlie and three other dogs with her mother, Jacqueline Witt, in a sunroom with limited access to food and water.
Investigators believe that Charlie died due to neglect after being malnourished for several days. Shockingly, Ragland and Witt allegedly sent the family pre-taken photos of Charlie to deceive them into thinking their pet was fine. After claiming Charlie had escaped and been hit by a car, Witt reportedly admitted to dumping the dog’s body miles away from her property.
The other dogs left at Witt’s home were also reportedly malnourished, with one requiring urgent veterinary care. These innocent animals seemingly suffered tremendously, and we must demand justice for Charlie and the others who endured such alleged neglect.
This case highlights the need for stronger oversight of pet training services. Those responsible for animal cruelty must face severe legal consequences, and stricter regulations should be implemented to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the recent case of alleged animal cruelty involving Josephine Ragland and Jacqueline Witt in Haddam, Connecticut. The details of this case, where multiple dogs were reportedly left in neglectful conditions, resulting in the tragic death of a French bulldog named Charlie, are both heartbreaking and enraging.
Charlie’s family trusted Ragland with their beloved pet, only to discover that their dog had allegedly been mistreated and left to die of starvation. Furthermore, the deception involved in reportedly sending pre-taken photos to Charlie’s family, followed by apparent attempts to cover up his death, is shocking and requires the strongest legal response.
I urge you to ensure that Ragland and Witt face the maximum penalties for their alleged actions. Additionally, this case highlights the need for stricter oversight and regulations regarding pet trainers and caretakers. Those entrusted with the care of animals must be properly vetted and held to the highest standards of responsibility.

i don’t know how anybody trusts anyone in this world today with the care of their pet or child. these people are absolutely sick. this beautiful little frenchie paid with his life. such a shame!
Poor little dog must have felt abandoned by his family whilst he was dying. It takes a long time to starve to death and it is painful. What kind of monster could starve this little thing to death? And what kind of family sends a little dog like this to a trainer anyway? Obviously a family that did not care about the dog, only that it would not do what dogs do, i.e. bark, play, jump on furniture etc. prosecute the trainer to fullest extent, even that is not enough. And I would also ban the family from ever having dogs again.
