Penalize Officer Who Allegedly Left K-9 in Hot Car to Die

Target: Andrew Bailey, Missouri Attorney General

Goal: Ensure officer faces the maximum legal consequences for allegedly causing the death of a K-9, Horus.

A tragic case of alleged animal abuse has emerged in Savannah, Missouri, where Police Lieutenant Daniel Zeigler is charged with animal abuse following the death of K-9 Horus, a police dog under his care. On June 20, Horus tragically died after being left in a hot police vehicle overnight. According to the probable cause statement, Zeigler’s police car was equipped with a safety feature that is designed to honk and roll down the windows when the interior temperature exceeds 90 degrees. However, it is believed that someone turned off the safety feature, leading to the dog’s death from heat exposure.

Witness reports indicated that Horus’ body was found outside the police vehicle the following morning, with Zeigler allegedly stating that he thought he had taken the dog inside after his shift. The investigation has raised concerns about potential negligence and has led to a charge of animal abuse against Zeigler.

This case highlights the need for a thorough investigation and strong legal action to ensure accountability. K-9 officers play a vital role in law enforcement and deserve the highest level of care and respect. It is essential that the Missouri Attorney General’s Office pursues justice for K-9 Horus. Seek the maximum legal penalties for those responsible for this tragic loss.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear AG Andrew Bailey,

I am writing to express my deep concern and sadness regarding the recent case involving Savannah Police Lieutenant Daniel Zeigler, who has been charged with animal abuse in connection with the tragic death of K-9 Horus. According to reports, Horus died on June 20 after being left in a hot police vehicle overnight. The probable cause statement suggests that a safety feature designed to prevent such a tragedy may have been turned off, leading to Horus’ death.

This incident appears to represent a serious breach of trust and responsibility, particularly given the vital role that K-9 officers like Horus play in law enforcement. It is imperative that those responsible for such negligence are held accountable under the law to ensure that this type of tragedy does not happen again.

I urge you to pursue this case with the utmost seriousness and to seek the maximum legal penalties for Lieutenant Zeigler under Missouri’s animal abuse laws. Justice for K-9 Horus is essential not only to honor his memory but also to send a clear message that the well-being of service animals will always be protected.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

  1. Seriously…he thought he brought in his 80 lb plus dog in for the night and didn’t notice the dog wasn’t around the house. Does he think anyone with a brain is going to buy that story. He should be changed just as a criminal who kills a police dog is charged. And if he is seriously that forgetful and ignorant of his surroundings he certainly can’t do a good job as an officer and shouldn’t have a gun. I bet he remembered to bring his gun inside and his cell phone.

  2. Fire this officer! His story is a complete lie! He’s an idiot to think anyone would believe him. Give him no back pay, no papers of praise from the department, just fire his ass! This dog was a living being and this is murder! He murdered his own partner! This man needs a life long ban so he can never own, work with or be near animals for the rest of his miserable life. His partner suffered greatly and this POS needs to remember this everyday of his life.
America has laws but no justice … give this dog justice!

  3. Fine him $50,000 for animal mistreatment and destruction of state property, and give the cash to no kill shelters. And ban him from all pet ownership for life as he has his head up his own ass and doesnt pay attention

  4. I’m outraged that Zeigler is lying about what happened to Horus–he needs to be FIRED ASAP!! This shouldn’t even be up for debate–K-9 dogs give their lives for their partner/caretaker everyday! He needs to be banned for a lifetime of ever owning a pet or even being around them!! He needs to be punished to the full extent of the law!! JUSTICE FOR HORUS!!
Zeigler should have to sit in a HOT car wrapped in a wool blanket so he can get a taste of what his partner endured!!

  5. what a bunch of bullshit. he is going to stand there with a straight face and say he thought he bought the dog in the house. yeah it’s easy to forget if you took a 90lb dog into the house or not. this clown should not have a badge and definitely not a gun. start making examples out of these bogus cops who don’t give a fuck about these dogs who by the way are their partners as well. what a horrible death for another beautiful K9. RIP!

  6. IF SOMEONE KILLS A K9 OFFICER, AREN’T THEY COMMITTING A CRIME? IF A PERSON KILLS A DOG, ISN’T THAT ABUSE OR CRUELTY AND AREN’T THEY HELD ACCOUNTABLE? THIS COP NEEDS TO BE JAILED.
