Kitten Requiring Medical Treatment Stolen From Petco Must be Found

Target: Philip J. Weiser, Attorney General of Colorado

Goal: Ensure a thorough investigation and the safe return of Mandarino, the stolen cat, to Soul Dog Rescue for necessary medical care.

A troubling incident of animal theft has occurred in Longmont, Colorado, where a 7-month-old cat named Mandarino was stolen from a Petco store. Mandarino, who was up for adoption through Soul Dog Rescue, had been at Petco but was set to return to the rescue due to respiratory issues requiring treatment. Before the rescue team could pick him up, an individual broke into the cat enclosure and stole Mandarino, fleeing the scene in a white Ford truck.

This theft is particularly concerning given Mandarino’s health condition. According to Tawny Irmer, Soul Dog Rescue’s medical lead, the cat requires medical attention to address his respiratory issues. The primary focus is on ensuring Mandarino’s safety and well-being, as he is microchipped and fully vaccinated but still in need of care. The Longmont Police Department is investigating, utilizing surveillance footage to identify the person responsible for the theft.

It is crucial that the Longmont Police Department conducts a thorough investigation to locate Mandarino and return him to Soul Dog Rescue, where he can receive the necessary medical care. The community must come together to ensure the safe recovery of this vulnerable animal and to discourage such acts of theft and neglect in the future.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear AG Philip J. Weiser,

I am writing to express my concern regarding the theft of a 7-month-old cat named Mandarino from the Petco store in Longmont, Colorado. Mandarino, who was under the care of Soul Dog Rescue, was taken from the store while awaiting transport back to the rescue due to respiratory issues that require medical treatment. The individual responsible broke into a cat enclosure and fled with Mandarino in a white Ford truck.

This case is particularly urgent given Mandarino’s health condition. As a vulnerable animal needing medical attention, it is imperative that he is safely returned to Soul Dog Rescue, where he can receive the necessary care. The theft not only jeopardizes Mandarino’s well-being but also undermines the efforts of animal rescues to provide safe and loving homes for animals in need.

I urge you to prioritize this investigation and use all available resources to locate Mandarino and ensure his safe return to Soul Dog Rescue. By taking swift action, you will help protect Mandarino’s health and well-being and send a clear message that such acts of animal theft will not be tolerated in our community.

Sincerely,

  1. I am worried about this poor kitty. Unfortunately, I think rescues should stop keeping cats in these cases at Petco and PetSmart once these stores close for the night. They need to be kept at a secure rescue and brought back each day.

  2. Things like this are very concerning. Why? What do they plan on doing with this kitten? Bait for dog fights? Feeding it to a snake? Very upsetting. Hope they catch these POS before it’s too late.

    • Yep, exactly what I was thinking. I hope these turds that took him are found, arrested, prosecuted & jailed and the cat is found unharmed.

    • I agree. This person who stole this kitten is a POS, and god knows what he intends to do with this kitty. If he intends to torture it, then I hope the kitten just dies now.

  3. STOP ANIMAL CRUELTY EVERYWHERE THROUGHOUT THE WORLD AS WELL AS ALL CRIME TOO IMMEDIATELY!!!!!

  4. Mary Dellenbusch says:

These assholes!! I hope they fucking drop dead! Let’s hope these fucks aren’t going to hurt this baby. Bring this baby back dick heads!!

  5. What is a sick cat doing being sold at Petco? This cat is 7 knots old but is sick. THat’s a red flag on Petco. There are no cameras and obviously nothing else to deter stealing this cat. This is wrong. Petco is wrong and we seemingly have no laws protecting animals for sale in the pet industry. Should this cat die due to these issues, Petco and the criminal taking the cat must both face the law. Companies selling living beings must take extra precautions.

    • New York passed law. YOU ARE NOT TO SELL CATS OR DOGS FROM PLACES LIKE THIS.

      • She WASN’T BEING SOLD. She was up for ADOPTION. Petco runs a lot of adoption events. The kitten was being treated for respiratory issues. Read the article again

    • The cat wasn’t being sold. She was up for adoption. My friend Dave used to volunteer at Petco and they sponsored a lot of adoption events. Try to read better, okay? The cat was being treated for respiratory issues.

  7. This person must be found because we don’t know what intentions made him steal this cat in such a hurry… fleeing the scene in a white Ford truck…hm..
It sounds very suspicious to me!!!
This kitty must be found as soon as possible, and this man needs to be harshly punished. I hope there is no harm committed to this defenseless kitty who on top of all that needs regular medication.

  8. I hpe they fine this thief and throw him n jail

  9. RITA VAN EECKENRODE says:

FIND THAT MONSTER OR MURDERER IF THAT KITTEN DIES. NO MERCY WITH SUCH AN EVIL PERSON. THIS IS NOT A HUMAN.

  10. Euthanize the theives. Anyone who steals cats from Petco isn’t likely contribiting that much to this world.

  11. Joseph Kenosky says:

Find these despicable thieves and euthanize them.

  12. Maria Lavorato says:

The Longmont Police Department is investigating, utilizing surveillance footage to identify the person responsible for the theft.

Please do everything possible to find this little kitty before it is potentially too late.

Soul Dog Rescue …. Please advertise on all platforms that Mandarino needs immediate medical attention!!!
    Offer reward…..

God’s speed little one for a safe, happy outcome….

  13. Hoping for the best for this sweet little soul but fearing the worst knowing the nature of too many humans. BRING HIM BACK

  14. with all the cats that need a home out there this jerkoff has to steal one. you can’t make up this level of stupidity.

  15. This kitten, needing medical attention, SHOULD have been kept safely away from where it could be stolen. This perp needs to be found and quick. Once he finds out the kitten is not well, he will no doubt dump it, just hope some kind person will find the kitty.

  16. another animal advocate says:

This is disturbing on many levels. Before reading the article, my first thought was it must be an employee as sick animals are not to remain “on the floor” in public view. The fact that a random person visiting the store “broke into the cat enclosure” and took this particular cat makes me want to believe that they did it specifically because they knew it needed medical attention. A long hair tortoiseshell, however, may have been stolen only because of its appealing appearance. This was certainly not the way to go about anything, but I hope and pray the kitten has already been seen by a vet at this point, is getting the medical treatment it needs, was proactively microchipped by the rescue group, and due to being microchipped and registered with the rescue group, will be returned asap.

  17. SICK SAD AND PURE EVIL!!! PETCO SHOULD NOT BE SELLING SICK KITTENS!!
THEY SHOULD HAVE VIDEOS OF THE TRUCK AND LICENSE PLATE OF THE EVIL THIEF!!!
    PLEASE FIND THIS MONSTER!!
