Target: Eric Hoffman, Delaware County Prosecutor, Indiana
Goal: Ensure Brian Privett faces the maximum legal consequences for alleged animal cruelty, and advocate for stronger enforcement of animal protection laws in Delaware County.
In Muncie, Indiana, a disturbing case of alleged animal cruelty has emerged involving Brian Privett, who has been charged with multiple offenses. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office reportedly discovered Privett living in deplorable conditions with 30 cats in a residence filled with urine, feces, and garbage, making the environment uninhabitable.
When deputies responded to an eviction call, they were reportedly met with the overpowering stench of urine from 30 feet away. Inside, they reportedly found 30 cats living in squalor, with gallon jugs of human waste and garbage strewn throughout the home. Privett and a juvenile were allowed to leave the property with five cats, but they left the remaining 25 cats without food or water.
The following day, Privett and the juvenile were reportedly found at a local hotel, leading to his arrest. Privett faces charges of animal cruelty, with potential penalties including up to 2.5 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
This alleged case highlights the urgent need for strict enforcement of laws to protect animals from such neglect and cruelty. Stronger regulations and diligent enforcement are essential to prevent similar situations in Delaware County. Advocate for stronger enforcement of animal protection laws and mental health services for the accused.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Prosecutor Eric Hoffman,
I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the recent case of alleged animal cruelty involving Brian Privett in Delaware County. Privett has been charged with animal cruelty after authorities reportedly discovered him living in deplorable conditions with 30 cats in a residence filled with urine, feces, and garbage. This case highlights the urgent need for strict enforcement of animal protection laws as well as mental health treatment for the accused.
It is crucial that Brian Privett faces the maximum legal consequences for his actions to send a clear message that such cruelty will not be tolerated in our community. I urge your office to prioritize the prosecution of this case, advocate for stronger regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future, and demand mental health services be provided to the suspect. The welfare of vulnerable animals must be protected, and justice must be served.
Sincerely,

This is a horrific case. Tis man is obviously insane. He does need help. I am not privy to say another about the younger person but no one can live in that state of decay I am surprised these 2 men were allowed out and then found a hotel before being charged with this crime. and the police left 25 cats in misery but allowed these 2 goofballs to take 5 cats with them. They may not have any animals in their presence!!! No one treats animals like that and retains the right to own them.A ban needs to be placed again this man to never be able to own, work with or be near animals again for the rest of his life. I hope he can be helped mentally yet even after that this ban must stay in place and he must face his years in prison or in an asylum. How do our various agencies, legal experts, and all the rest we tax payers pay for yet they don’t know this situation? We must do better for those who are sick and cab’t do for themselves. But, this man may never again own animals!
I agree t. This man is definitely mentally ill and needs help. Why did the police let him, a juvenile and 5 cats go to a motel? He should have been checked into the psyche ward immediately. I am so surprised that these people were not physically sick from the disgusting way in which they lived. Gallon jugs of human waste?!!!! Really?!!!
This obviously sick person should not have been allowed to take any cats with him! All the cats should have been rescued!! He deserves a very long jail sentence.
SThese sicko should be put away
To make matters worse, this isn’t the first time he’s done this. He’s the one responsible for leaving almost 40 cats in a U-Haul truck in December of 2018. Then in 2021 there was a case in Yorktown at a house on Oakdale Dr. where he left around 50 cats in the same conditions as this situation. How long is he going to keep getting away with doing this and allowed to just have more cats?
