Stop Normalizing Animal Cruelty for Young Users on Social Media

Target: Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta

Goal: Implement stringent measures to identify and remove animal cruelty content, and ensure the platform offers easy reporting mechanisms for users.

The RSPCA has raised alarms about the rising exposure of young people to animal cruelty content on social media platforms like Facebook, owned by Meta. More than 40% of 16 to 17-year-olds and nearly a third of 18 to 24-year-olds have reportedly encountered such distressing content online. Reports to the RSPCA’s emergency line about animal cruelty seen on social media are set to reach a four-year high, with over 2,000 incidents reported since the beginning of 2020.

One particularly shocking video that circulated reportedly showed a youth swinging a dog tied to a rope from a building’s terrace, sparking widespread outrage. Other disturbing videos, some apparently filmed in countries where animal cruelty is not illegal, reportedly depict horrific acts such as dogs being doused in hot oil and puppies being buried alive.

This alarming trend has led to concerns that young people are becoming desensitized to animal cruelty, creating a “compassion gap” between generations. The RSPCA’s annual Animal Kindness Index highlights this issue, revealing that those who spend the most time online tend to have less favorable views on animal welfare. Implement stringent measures to identify and remove animal cruelty content.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Zuckerberg,

I am writing to express my grave concern regarding the alarming rise in animal cruelty content on Facebook. The RSPCA’s recent findings show that over 40% of teenagers aged 16-17 and nearly 30% of young adults aged 18-24 have been exposed to such horrific content online. This exposure risks normalizing cruelty and desensitizing young users to the suffering of animals.

Videos depicting severe animal abuse, such as dogs being doused in hot oil and puppies buried alive, have sparked outrage and demand urgent action. The RSPCA’s data indicates that reports of animal cruelty seen on social media are set to hit a four-year high, with over 2,000 incidents reported since 2020.

I urge you to take immediate and stringent measures to identify and remove content depicting animal cruelty from Facebook. It is crucial to implement robust reporting mechanisms, making it easier for users to report such content and for your team to act swiftly to remove it.

Your leadership in this matter is vital to protect both the welfare of animals and the mental health of Facebook users. Please take decisive action to ensure that Facebook does not become a platform for spreading cruelty and suffering.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent issue.

Sincerely,

This is a VERY SERIOUS ISSUE! Such acts of cruelty will also progress to cruelty towards humans. I urge FB authorities to take swift and decisive action to stop this alarming, horrifying trend NOW!

  2. Please do. They will remove a post if a word they don’t like is mentioned, but will allow animal abuse videos. Make it make sense. It’s disgusting!

  3. Platforms who leave cruelty up should be shut down, no debate or arguement. Its not like they pay their damn taxes anyway so no loss to public revenue, and all the damage they do, all the trauma they create, all the mental health issues, all these costs to the public all coming out of YOUR POCKET, not zuckerbergs. He just allows all the evil and makes his blood money. Guys got a one way ticket to hell, must have left his soul out in the desert lost, as he hasnt got one now

  4. Any young person using these platforms need to be responsible. They aren’t.
We are getting no where with the platforms accepting responsibility so we must turn to the users and their parents. Young people do know right from wrong but choose wrong, knowingly. This is mental confusion. These youngsters need mental evaluation. To be part of horrible video’s in participation or viewingkdemands a hospitalization. Depending on the severity of the case a short term or long term stay will be required. Young people and their parents would do well for themselves to get off these platforms causing them to drain their deposits dry. That will stop this!

  5. Anyone, regardless of their age, deserve the exact same treatment they inflict on animals – I don’t care if they are 8 or 80 – teach them a life and/or death message – depending on the act they committed- and I DO mean they deserve to be buried alive if that is what they did to an animal.

  6. What is wrong with people this is not okay! What are you teaching our kids it’s okay to inflict pain agony suffering for fun? What kind of monsters are being created that will be unleashed into society to do these sickening vile grotesque things to others? Enough already open your eyes to what this is doing to our future generations you must know the damage being done but why?

Facebook doesn’t allow us to discuss covid or express our political opinions but they allow animal cruelty and abuse. No morals!

    Zuckerberg is a J^&*#h Marxist p%^&K

  9. Mr Zuckerberg, please use actual people and not AI to evaluate cruelty content. Too many sadistic people are using YOUR platform (also Instagram) to torture animals. The wide media consumption of this type of material by young viewers is not mentally healthy. Your company actually makes money off of this cruelty content with advertising. Seems to me like your company is encouraging animal cruelty; shouldn’t there be a law against that?
