Launch Inquiry into Greyhound Racing Industry Amid Animal Abuse Allegations

Target: Hon. David Harris, NSW Minister for Gaming and Racing, Australia

Goal: Demand a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure animal welfare and industry integrity.

The New South Wales government, led by Minister for Gaming and Racing David Harris, has appointed The Hon Lea Drake to spearhead an independent inquiry into the state’s greyhound racing industry. This decision follows serious allegations of animal abuse within the industry. The inquiry will scrutinize Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) regarding its governance, operational practices, track safety, and adherence to animal welfare standards. Complaints from whistleblowers will also be investigated.

Minister Harris emphasized the importance of maintaining a competitive, responsible, and sustainable industry that prioritizes animal welfare and integrity. He affirmed his commitment to addressing the concerns raised and ensuring that the governing bodies and senior leadership of the racing codes meet these essential standards. The inquiry will leverage the full investigative powers of the Greyhound Welfare & Integrity Commission (GWIC) to conduct a comprehensive review of all relevant issues.

GRNSW has expressed support for the inquiry, with acting CEO Wayne Billett welcoming Ms. Drake’s appointment. He highlighted Ms. Drake’s reputation for forensic inquiry and critical thinking, and expressed confidence in the external examination of GRNSW’s processes and modernization efforts.

This development follows the recent resignation of GRNSW’s chief executive, Robert Macauley, adding urgency to the need for thorough investigation and reform. Demand a thorough and transparent investigation.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Hon. David Harris,

I am writing to express my strong support for the recently announced independent inquiry into the NSW greyhound racing industry, led by The Hon Lea Drake. The allegations of animal abuse within Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) are deeply concerning and necessitate a thorough and transparent investigation.

The welfare of animals in the racing industry must be a top priority. The inquiry’s focus on GRNSW’s governance, operations, track safety, and animal welfare practices is crucial to ensuring that the industry adheres to the highest standards of integrity and responsibility. It is essential that all complaints, particularly those from whistleblowers, are rigorously examined and addressed.

I urge you to ensure that the inquiry utilizes the full investigative powers of the Greyhound Welfare & Integrity Commission (GWIC) and maintains transparency throughout the process. The findings and recommendations must lead to meaningful reforms that protect the welfare of greyhounds and restore public confidence in the industry.

Thank you for your commitment to upholding animal welfare standards and ensuring the long-term viability and integrity of the greyhound racing industry.

Sincerely,

  1. This greed should be stopped jail them

  2. NOTHING has changed… In decades… Nor will it ever change!!! The appalling cruelty, horrific injuries, drugs, live baiting, deaths & dead waste (used up dogs, socalled litter runts etc) mass graves & so much more evil cruelty. For decades I have seen the CONTINUOUS horrendous footage of this DISGUSTINGLY CRUEL & WASTEFUL INDUSTRY. IT MUST BE BANNED!!!
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH FOR THESE BEAUTIFUL DOGS!

  3. Can assure everyone reading its far far worse than your worst nightmares could show. There was an investigation into irish greyhounds done here and the barbarity was so bad it stayed in my head to this day, decades later. What has been revealed is the tip of a monstrous iceberg of evil outright animal abuse. Realistically this should be banned and consigned to history like its bedfellows bearbaiting, cockfighting and hare coursing. But some lazy little pricks can make money from it, so the horrific cruelty goes on. The public think its like horseracing but it isnt, its monstrous and evil and they have no idea of these facts

  4. These dogs don’t deserve this but mankind is FAR from kind. Look at the criminals doing this, for money only. I honestly wish the government would grab these monsters and force them to live the way they force these dogs to live. Humans are animals but I hate to say that as I don’t want to insult animals. Animals have virtues,, humans don’t. Humans are the lowest form of life in that they care only for themselves, have no ethics, little intelligence, are mobsters and deserve nothing. Humans are greedy and that’s their best trait.

Dog racing needs to be banned and outlawed!! The poor dogs suffer for the sickening greed of man.
