Success: Another Major Retailer Bans Fur

Target: Executive Chairman of TJX Companies, Carol Meyrowitz

Goal: Applaud major internet retailer Sierra Trading Post for banning products made with fur.

The use of fur in products sold by clothing companies is one of the largest causes of the brutal and inhumane treatment of a variety of animal species. Fortunately, some retailers are beginning to recognize the impact their products have on the welfare of animals and are banning products containing fur from their stores. Sierra Trading Post is the most recent company to ban fur from their products, and it is important that they be recognized and commended for this important step.

The sale of fur products in clothing stores is extremely problematic as it continues to create a market for fur trappers and farmers. Companies selling fur have often been asked by animal rights activists and by petitions from ForceChange to change their ways and discontinue the sale of fur products. Sierra Trading Post is Wyoming’s largest internet retailer and sells a variety of active outdoor wear. After recent discussions with PETA, the company announced that it would no longer be selling any products containing animal fur. With many large companies continuing to sell fur, it is very significant any time a large retailer decides to take a stand and eradicate fur from its products.

Though we still have a long way to go in the battle against the sale of fur by clothing companies, it is a hopeful sign whenever a company bans fur from its shelves. Sierra Trading Post is doing the right thing by going fur-free, and it is important that we take time to thank them for doing so. Please sign the below petition to applaud Sierra Trading Post for standing up for animal welfare.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Ms. Meyrowitz,

I am writing to thank you and Sierra Trading Post for making the decision to ban fur from all of your products. The use of fur in clothing is a very big problem because it creates continued demand for the barbaric fur trade. By deciding not to sell products containing fur, you and Sierra Trading Post are setting a strong example for other major retailers, showing that the mistreatment of animals is not to be tolerated.

As you probably know, many companies still continue to sell products containing fur, despite the demands of many groups to stop doing so. By continuing to sell fur in their stores, these retailers are perpetuating the cruel treatment of animals by fur trappers and fur farmers who care nothing for these animals. I hope you know that by banning fur products, you and Sierra Trading Post are making an important and significant decision that is bringing us one step closer to ending the terrible mistreatment of animals.

Ultimately, the decision to ban fur from Sierra Trading Post’s products will hopefully encourage other companies to follow suit. Thank you so much to you and your company for standing up for animal welfare.

Sincerely,
