Cats Apparently Starved Into Cannibalism Deserve Justice

Target: Benjamin Abalos Jr., Secretary of the Interior and Local Government of the Philippines

Goal: Ensure those responsible for the alleged neglect and cruelty towards cats in Dasmariñas City are held accountable and prevent future incidents.

A heart-wrenching situation unfolded in Dasmariñas City, Cavite, where cats at a local pound reportedly faced such severe neglect that they resorted to cannibalism to survive. This distressing incident has sparked outrage and a call for immediate action to address the alleged failures in animal welfare and impounding practices within the community. Reports indicate the Dasmariñas City Veterinary Office and the Office of the City Mayor are investigating the matter, with promises to overhaul procedures to safeguard animal welfare. Yet, the community demands more concrete actions to ensure such atrocities never recur.

Further details highlight the gravity of the situation. A cat owner, searching for her missing pet, reportedly found her cat Macky in a dire state, eating a deceased cat out of desperation and hunger. This appalling discovery was confirmed by Yvette Mayo, a local animal rescuer, who found additional victims of the alleged neglect. The public has been shocked by images and videos reportedly showing the skeletal remains of these cats, bringing to light the urgent need for systemic change. The alleged perpetrator’s defense claims no cruelty was intended, asserting efforts were made to provide for the animals, yet the evidence suggests a significant lapse in care and responsibility.

The necessity for legal and procedural reforms is clear. This petition demands the Interior Secretary of the Philippines not only hold those allegedly responsible for this tragedy accountable but also implement stringent oversight and humane treatment protocols for animal pounds nationwide. Prevent future instances of neglect and cruelty, ensuring animals are treated with the respect and care they deserve.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Secretary Abalos,

The recent reports of severe neglect and alleged cruelty at a pound in Dasmariñas City, Cavite, where cats reportedly turned to cannibalism due to starvation, have brought to light a significant crisis in our animal welfare practices. These reported incidents underscore a profound failure in our duty to protect the most vulnerable among us, demanding immediate and decisive action to ensure such a tragedy is never repeated. The allegations of negligence leading to such extreme suffering for these animals not only shock the conscience but also call into question the integrity of our animal welfare systems.

The community’s response to this situation, including the efforts by the Dasmariñas City Veterinary Office and the Office of the City Mayor to investigate and promise reforms, is a step in the right direction. However, without tangible changes and strict accountability, these promises remain hollow. It is imperative that we see a comprehensive review and overhaul of animal impounding and welfare protocols, along with rigorous enforcement of existing laws designed to prevent animal cruelty. The allegations suggest a systemic issue that requires a robust and coordinated response.

Therefore, we urge you to take immediate action to hold those allegedly responsible for this neglect accountable and to implement systemic reforms to prevent such incidents in the future. We demand transparency in the investigation, the implementation of rigorous standards for animal care in pounds, and the establishment of clear and enforceable penalties for violations of these standards. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that all animals are treated with humanity and compassion, and we look to you to lead these crucial reforms.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

THE MONSTERS WHO RUN THIS POUND NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AND PROSECUTED FOR NEGLECT ABUSE TORTURE AND MURDER TO INNOCENT CATS!!! THEY NEED TO BE LOCKED UP AND NEVER EVER BE ALLOWED TO GO NEAR ANOTHER ANIMAL AGAIN!!!
THESE INNOCENT CATS DESERVE JUSTICE TO MAKE SURE THIS NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN!!!!!

    • Absolutely get these monsters prosecuted, locked up,and never ever be able to be near any innocent animals again. Such rampant evil must be STOPPED-such disgusting depravity is horrible.Throw these monsters into the gates of hell!

      • Prosecuted in the Philippines for animal abuse and torture?? YOU MUST BE JOKING.
THESE BASTARDS HAVE ‘HELL ON EARTH’ dog and cat markets and stupid people eat them daily, and no one does ‘ sweet fuck all’ about it!!!!
The governing bodies could not give a toss as I expect they eat dog and cat meat also!
This is a sick and heinous trade which has been going on for years. I will not dwell on this as anyone can ‘google’ dog and cat markets in the Philippines. But be warned—I can almost guarantee you WILL NOT want to eat anything for a while afterwards!!
I do not know what the answer is right now but what I do know is these Filipino dog and cat torturing bastards sure need a taste of their own sickening cruelty. These people are absolute BASTARDS all of them
and seriously deserve the same fate. And that is a very torturous death. Bastards— all of them!!! I sincerely hope that they all die of food poisoning.
        J.W.

  2. The morons responsible need to be properly punished for their clear disregard and lack of empathy for animals in their care.
I would love nothing better than to take a crowbar to their skulls

I totally agree with J Martin
“The morons responsible need to be properly punished for their clear disregard and lack of empathy for animals in their care.
I would love nothing better than to take a crowbar to their skulls”!!!!!

  4. Deliberate and extreme negligence of animals has NO place in the modern world. Please use your authority to be a change agent for sentient beings vulnerably held in your pounds.

  5. THROW ALL INVOLVED INTO CAGES AND LET THEM STARVE; THEN LET THEM CANNIBALIZE EACH OTHER.

  6. I’m currently vacationing in the Philippines and apparently not caring about animals is a widespread problem. People here are ignorant or don’t give a shit about animals. They let animals wander the streets to fend for themselves or starve. Or they keep their dogs tied up on a short leash under the hot sun all day and don’t provide food or water on a regular basis. When you report these violations to the authorities, they don’t do anything about them. Filipinos are trash >:(

  7. Dennis Busto says:

Absolutely No Tolerance Towards Animal ABUSERS n Cruelty. Eye for an eye fits this crime n should be the punishment. Paws Matter 🐾

  8. The country of the Philippines is evil
And cruel for abusing animals. It’s disgusting how animals are treated there.

  9. Jaime Perez says:

This is a terrible tragedy that can be prevented from happening again. The authorities need to get off their butts and make sure the animals in their care are taken care of properly.

  10. “The alleged perpetrator’s defense claims no cruelty was intended…”
Way to self-justify such immoral and outrageous NEGLECT! Unless they’re deaf, dumb AND blind, there’s NO excuse!

  11. And were ANY of these poor cats still alive after this was discovered??? Why doesn’t the story say?

  12. Jason hallam says:

This needs to end. Hold people accountable and this wil stop. I mean serious time in jail and it will end.

WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH YOU ALL…WHAT?! DO YOU HAVE TO GO AND SORT IT OUT YOURSELVES. NO ANIMALS SHOULD BE SUFFERING, EVER, BUT THESE DISGUSTING EXCUSES FOR `HUMANS` THINK ITS OK TO DO WHAT THEY WANT.
PUNISH THEM TO THE HIGHEST DEGREE AND THEN SOME, AFTER YOU HAVE RESCUED THESE ANIMALS.
THESE VILE EXCUSES FOR HUMANS MUST BE MADE AN EXAMPLE OF AND NOW!! LOCK THEM UP, HARD LABOUR ALL DAY, EVERY DAY, FOR THE REST OF THEIR MISERABLE LIVES.
    DO NOT EXCUSE THIS, EVER!!

  16. the pathetic pieces of shit who run this pound should receive years of jail time.

  17. FIND THESE CRUEL ABUSIVE MONSTERS SND LOCK THEM INTO STRPNG METAL CAGES WITH ANY FOOD AND WATER FOR THE REST OF THEOR MISERABLE LIVES!!!!

  18. There are a lot of things that lead to horrific and fatal consequences for shelter animals. Lax animal welfare laws with deterrent sentences for non-compliance. Lack of standards of mandatory care. Lack of unannounced inspections by qualified inspectors with at least basic veterinary qualifications. Little or no training or certification of shelter staff for species-specific care, enrichment needs and health assessments. No licensed veterinary staff either on site or on call 24/7. Community outreach for volunteers fosterers and fundraising. That’s a big framework to put in place, but communities in some of the poorest countries manage it. Dasmariñas City officials have a lot of work ahead, and better animal welfare laws will help them attain it.

These cats held at Dasmariñas City shelter deserved so much better. It’s heartbreaking to read what happened to them. Those that survived will have extreme trauma that will take much time, patience, love and perseverance to overcome.

To all who have signed, spoken out, thank you. You are the voices we need to stop the suffering of innocents such as these. My gratitude.

  19. How awful. RIP.
