Target: Kim Ogg, District Attorney of Harris County, TX
Goal: Prosecute cruelty cases involving companion animals to fullest extent.
Two recent incidents in Houston highlight the different but equally devastating forms animal cruelty can take. In the first case, a home security camera reportedly showed a man throwing a heavy weight at his dog. Then, the man allegedly followed the fleeing dog and continued striking the whimpering animal. The suspect has since been charged with animal cruelty while the dog, now named Bones, was fortunately adopted into a new home.
The second case involves allegations that nearly a dozen dogs and cats were subjected to severe neglect and possible starvation at a Houston residence. The animals were taken into custody and given veterinary care. Suspected animal cruelty in Texas can lead to potential felony charges that carry prison time.

PETITION LETTER:
Dear District Attorney Ogg,
The Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has emphasized its close partnership with law enforcement in animal cruelty investigations. Two recent incidents grabbed attention, with one involving allegations of severe neglect against several dogs and cats and the other showing the alleged physical assault of a dog caught on camera. Each of these cases is an opportunity to show the community and would-be perpetrators that in Houston, cruelty to any living being will not be tolerated.
Please pursue the fullest possible charges and sentences (if the suspects are found guilty) in both these cases.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
