Target: Scott Rueter, Macon County State’s Attorney
Goal: Ensure legal accountability for the alleged animal cruelty leading to the death and suffering of pit bulls in Decatur.
A recent incident in Decatur has sent shockwaves of distress among animal lovers. Allegedly, two pit bull puppies died and a third adult dog suffered due to severe neglect and abuse. This harrowing scenario unfolded on East Whitmer Street, where officers discovered the tragic scene. One puppy, reportedly attached to a mere 2-foot leash, and another, found with a chain around its neck, represent the horrifying conditions leading to their demise. Such acts of alleged cruelty cannot go unanswered.
Further details reveal a disturbing pattern. The adult dog, which miraculously survived, was in dire condition upon discovery, symbolizing the extent of alleged neglect. This case is not isolated, with similar incidents reportedly occurring in the area. One notable case involved a pit bull named Berry Blue, allegedly left to freeze to the point of euthanization. These incidents paint a grim picture of what appears to be a trend of alleged animal cruelty in the region.
Immediate legal action against those allegedly responsible is imperative. It’s crucial for ensuring justice for these innocent animals and deterring future acts of cruelty. Demand that the Macon County State’s Attorney rigorously pursue these cases, ensuring that those allegedly responsible face appropriate legal consequences.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Scott Rueter,
The recent allegations of animal cruelty in Decatur, involving the death of two pitbull puppies and the suffering of a third, have raised serious concerns. It’s alleged that these animals faced extreme neglect and abuse, resulting in death and significant suffering. Such acts, if proven true, should be met with the full force of the law.
In the context of these allegations, it’s not just about individual cases but a broader issue of animal welfare in the community. The case of Berry Blue, a pit bull that reportedly froze to death, is another heart-wrenching example of alleged neglect. These incidents highlight a potentially disturbing trend that needs urgent attention. It’s vital to address these issues robustly to prevent any more animals from suffering a similar fate.
I implore you to take swift and decisive action. Ensuring that those allegedly responsible are held accountable is crucial for justice. It also serves as a deterrent for similar acts in the future. We count on your commitment to upholding the law and protecting the most vulnerable among us.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]

I keep seeing advertisements on here saying ‘Puppies looking for a good home’!
Kelly’s Kennels dog breeders of a high standard.
In my opinion, ( although not everyone’s), this is the problem. There are too many dog breeders, (not all bad I hasten to add) making lots of money exploiting animals for monetary gain as it it obviously a thriving business!
It would be nice if these people could do a proper job and not one that involves using dogs as ‘breeding machines’.
But it is big money the world over and not about to stop as silly people will shell out big money for a supposedly ‘upper – class’ fancy named dog!
Too many nasty breeders out there also who have no mercy for their breeding dogs. I cannot see that this is EVER going to end and will not whilst the money is rolling in. After all, it is JUST a business and unfortunate animals just happen to be ‘trapped’ in it!
It really is all about money and animals are just collateral damage and do not matter.
Everyone has their own views but would be interesting to know others feelings!

My sentiments exactly. A lot of breeders do not care about their animals – they only care about the money! There should be some kind of register for dog breeders in the U.S. In the U.K. we have the Kennel Club. When I wanted to buy a Corgi and later a Yorkie, I contacted the Kennel Club for a list of breeders. That is the only way you know you are buying from a good breeder in my opinion. If they are not registered – then don’t buy from them. And if they are not registered, why not? What have they got to hide? Too many people buy puppies from breeders without asking to see the mother. But even then, if the breeder shows you a bitch and says it’s the mother, it doesn’t necessarily mean she is. The buyer should OBSERVE the way she interacts with the puppies and vice versa. If she is not attentive of them and they are not coming up to her – chances are she is NOT their mom! A good breeder should also produce papers giving FIVE generations of parents, grand-parents, etc. If the puppies are older than 8 weeks, they should also have had their first innoculations – so ASK TO SEE THE INNOCULATION RECORDS. If they say the puppy has been innoculated but can’t produce the vet card – WALK AWAY. Do not accept any excuses for non-production of the vet record – including them saying they’ll look it out and send it in the post – THEY WON’T!
Totally agree Jon, and whoever said “the love of money is the root of all evil” knew what they were talking about!! Not saying all animal abusers do it for money, they’re just evil, but certainly the puppy mill owners do what they do for the love of money. As far as the “decent” dog breeders are concerned, I don’t think ANYONE should be allowed to breed from their animals while there are MILLIONS of abandoned, abused and homeless animals waiting out there in shelters to be adopted. Many end up being euthanized when room runs out. Millions of people are abandoning their animals as I type this, claiming the current high cost of living!! We are ALL struggling but my animals will always eat before I do and I can think of no circumstance where I would hand them on to someone else…. unless I died of course!
There needs to be stricter laws in place to protect animals. Punishment to abusers needs to be more severe. This will continue and get worse over time. Enough is enough!! I’m so sick of hearing all these cases of animals being placed in the hands of evil people.
EVERYTKME I SEE THIS HORRIBLE HORRIBLE ABUSE TO ANIMALS?!?!? THIS IS HAPPENING TO CHILDREN TOO❗️❗️❗️
MUST SEVERELY PUNISH ALL ABUSERS OF ANIMALS AND CHILDREN ,,, ASAP❗️❗️❗️
This city should be renamed “animal abuser lives here & gats away!” Need to remove the officials and replaced with someone who will doa better job of prosecuting animal abusers!
OH PLEASE STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR THESE POSITIVELY EVIL PIECES OF WORK, SUPPOSEDLY CALLED HUMAN BEINGS…THAT’S A JOKE!!.
EVIL IS WHAT THEY SHOULD BE NAMED AS…THEY PROVE THAT BY THEIR ACTIONS, WHICH SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES. DISGUSTING, SO CALLED, HUMAN BEINGS…NOTHING MORE!!
PUNISH THEM TO THE HIGHEST DEGREE…AND THEN SOME. THEY ARE WORTHLESS ON THIS PLANET, THEY DO NO GOOD AND THINK ITS OK…LET ME ASSURE IT ISNT.
