Puppy Who Allegedly OD’d on Fentanyl Deserves Justice

Target: Todd Spitzer, District Attorney for Orange County, CA

Goal: Punish couple accused of exposing pet to dangerous drug to fullest extent if found guilty.

A puppy in southern California reportedly survived a life-threatening danger that is on the rise. The pup was in the parking lot of a shopping center while police were interrogating the dog’s caretaker and another companion. As the two people were being arrested for alleged possession of fentanyl, the pup seemingly began exhibiting distressing symptoms. At this point, the female reportedly said, “I think my dog is overdosing.” Fortunately, the officers were able to later administer an overdose-reversing drug and apparently save the puppy’s life.

The police department released a statement saying, “we have asked the DA to charge the pair with felony animal cruelty and possession of narcotics.” Yet despite the troubling circumstances, no charges have yet been filed. In fact, the puppy—Myla—may soon be returned to this couple.

Sign the petition below to demand legal action that could correct a possible injustice and, in the process, potentially save this young dog’s life.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear DA Spitzer,

Fentanyl is dozens of times more powerful than heroin, and the drug has already claimed or endangered many human lives and even animal lives. Although police dogs are arguably at most risk, pets who are cared for by people addicted to these powerful substances are also in harm’s way. Myla, an eight-week-old puppy, reportedly almost lost her life due to alleged fentanyl exposure.

Why have no charges been considered or filed against Myla’s owner, Caleb Gibson, or his girlfriend who reportedly told police that the puppy had already suffered at least one overdose incident? If these individuals did endanger their pet’s life via drugs, then they can and should be charged with animal cruelty. Please investigate this disturbing case further and seek maximum charges if appropriate.

Sincerely,

  1. DO NOT RETURN THIS ANIMAL TO THOSE PEOPLE!! Charge them with everything they can be charged with.

  2. Absolutely animal abuse, nothing else is appropriate. If this had of been a child they’d be sitting in a jail cell now, as they should be. Prosecute them with all possible charges before they hurt a child and make sure they never have an animal again for as long as they live.

  3. Please don’t let these 2 bastsrds have that puppy back cause they will kill him on that damn drug
