Goal: Prosecute woman accused of abandoning and nearly killing pet dog to fullest extent.
Authorities discovered a heartbreaking site in a New York basement. An apparently malnourished dog was eating gravel from the dirty floor. When rescuers took the animal to a veterinary center, she nearly died from cardiac arrest. An evaluation reportedly revealed she had the lowest body health score possible for a dog. Fortunately, she survived and now has the opportunity for a new beginning with a new name: Hope.
The woman who was reportedly supposed to be caring for Hope, Hortence Ngarissona, has been charged with two counts of animal cruelty. She allegedly abandoned this poor dog in the basement and never returned. The fact that Hope was consuming gravel indicates she may have endured long-term nutritional deficiency. Without the emergency intervention, she could very well have lost her life.

Dear DA Fitzpatrick,
Far too often, defenseless pets are cast aside and abandoned…with tragic results. This fate seemingly almost befell Hope: a German shepherd found in a basement who had been reduced to skin and bones and who reportedly had nothing to eat but the gravel on the floor. Thankfully, good Samaritans saved her life. But her story will not have a happy ending unless the person allegedly responsible for her condition receives a fitting and appropriate punishment.
If Hortence Ngarissona did leave her pet dog to die, she needs to face the most severe consequences. Please fight for and ensure the maximum punishment if she is deemed guilty. Send a decisive message about deadly animal abandonment.

Judge…..Stop making excuses for these soulless humans. This is aggravated cruelty or attempted murder toward an innocent defenceless animal so pass sentence in accordance with the crime. She deserves to rot away slowly eating nothing but gravel.

I implore whomever is to evaluate this case of animal cruelty to treat this as the serious crime that it is. There is no justifying this. This animal was neglected and abused for a prolonged time and her most basic needs withheld. Additionally, it is only the slightest effort to take and surrender an animal to a shelter, (hopefully no kill). German Shepherds are intelligent, loyal,protective animals that make wonderful individual or family pets. Instead she choose to allow her to meet a gruesome death of dehydration, starvation,reduced to consuming gravel which would also cause horrific agony, prolonged suffering,fear, terror, and death. Animals are intelligent and feeling similar or same as we are. This individual’s deliberate, heinous crime violates the most basic standards of animal welfare and dignity. There cannot be any true justification for this. Please impart every maximum penalty under our law and no plea deal. These crimes will only stop by holding people accountable. There is no rationalizing or minimizing. And, to be sure, a ban for life from all further “ownership ” or unsupervised interaction with animals is of equal importance. THANK YOU!

Nobody just accidently forgets their pets inside homes or rentals when the owners abandon their place of residency. These are planned and intentional decisions knowing that the outcome could and will result in death. These are heartless human beings who with cruel intentions abandoned their pets. In my opinion these crimes should be Felony’s especially when an animal has died or when there is obvious signs of severe malnutrition from starvation.

Here we go again and again and again! As long as these low life abusers get off with light sentences it will not stop. Animals are helpless and dependent on their caretakers to take care of them and yet we see over and over that some of them just don’t give a shit!
This poor dog deserves justice. This person needs to be punished to the fullest. They need to be starved just like they did the dog. Cruelty to animals need harsher punishments and maybe people will think twice about hurting these poor defenseless animals.
If this Hortence woman did intentionally leave her dog to die (I hope her being gone was due to circumstances outside her control), I hope she faces justice. And more importantly, I hope that Hope gets a wonderful forever home and she is showered with lots of love and all the treats and toys she deserves and more.
