Stop Hunting Endangered Helmeted Hornbills for Their Valuable Body Parts

Target: Dr. Siti Nurbaya Bakar, Minister of Environment and Forestry of Indonesia

Goal: Advocate for the protection of the helmeted hornbill, which is critically endangered due to poaching for its casque.

The helmeted hornbill is a unique bird species found in Southeast Asia, particularly in Indonesia, and is critically endangered due to illegal poaching for its casque, a solid keratin structure on its head. The casque is highly valued in traditional Chinese medicine and is also used for ornamental purposes. As a result of poaching, the population of the helmeted hornbill has declined by over 90% in the past few decades.

This situation demands immediate action to prevent the extinction of this species. We must raise awareness and advocate for the protection of the helmeted hornbill to stop the illegal poaching and trade of its casque.

Sign below and demand that those in power work to save this unique bird species from extinction and ensure its survival for future generations.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Dr. Siti Nurbaya Bakar,

I am writing to urge you to take immediate action to protect the critically endangered helmeted hornbill in Indonesia. The helmeted hornbill is threatened by illegal poaching for its casque, which is highly valued in traditional Chinese medicine and for ornamental purposes.

The helmeted hornbill population has declined by over 90% in the past few decades, and this species is at the brink of extinction. We must take action to prevent the extinction of this unique bird species and protect the biodiversity of our natural world.

We urge you to increase law enforcement efforts to stop the illegal poaching and trade of the helmeted hornbill casque. In addition, we urge you to raise awareness among local communities, stakeholders, and the public about the importance of protecting this species and its habitat.

Through our efforts, we can protect the helmeted hornbill from extinction and preserve this vital part of our natural world for future generations.

Sincerely,
