Goal: Do not back calls to broaden wolf cull and further endanger this at-risk species.
Powerful special interests already responsible for the slaughter of countless animals every year are now successfully targeting endangered wolf populations in Sweden. A strong hunting lobby, backed by the agriculture sector, has successfully swayed the nation’s politicians to increase its annual wolf cull to the point where enough wolves will be killed in one year to match previous kills over a decade’s time. As a result, about 75 wolves will lose their lives amongst a population that already hovers below 500.
Previous recommendations from Sweden’s top environmental agency have advised that the nation’s total wolf population should not fall below 300. Prior to this number, the recommended lowest bar was 500, which has already been exceeded. Yet despite warnings and despite the important role that these apex predators play in maintaining well-balanced ecosystems, politicians are aiming to slash the population to a maximum of 170.

Dear Minister Sätherberg,
The European Commission has already warned this government about its annual wolf cull and the ritual’s violation of policy and threat to critical conservation efforts. The Swedish people themselves, minus certain influential special interests, are increasingly speaking out against this practice and in favor of the wildlife it targets. You are aware of these concerns, yet your answer is to pressure Sweden’s top environmental agency to sign off on plummeting wolf populations down to a dangerously low 170.
This sanctioned slaughter will benefit no one but powerful lobbyists worried about their bottom line and their uninfringed ability to kill the maximum number of animals. It can and will, however, upend ecosystems. Please heed the growing number of calls to stop sending Sweden’s wolves on a slow march towards extinction.

Leave the wolves alone. They have just as much right to live as you worthless bastards that want to kill them. It doesn’t take a brave man to shoot a wolf 300 yards away with a scoped rifle. All it takes is a fuckin’ coward. How many people would be willing to hunt these beautiful creatures down and kill them if the wolves had guns and could shoot back. Very, very few I would imagine. So, how about letting the wolves live their lives and you worthless humans live yours. It’s called “live and let live”. But I doubt many humans understand that concept. Wolves have the right to live the same as us! Leave them alone and STOP THE CRUELTY

I signed the petition because wolves need protections. But I do feel somewhat like a hypocrite in doing so, considering the US government does their share in killing wolves too. Wildlife Services has probably mudered hundreds of wolves in conflict situations with ranchers. I believe that there are alternative ways of dealing with predator problems, but these are rarely used. It’s much easier to just eliminate the predator. Wolves need our help to survive. They keep wild herds of deer and other creatures’s populations in check. We need them.
Disgusting that Sweden does this to wolves. Such a “progressive” country yet wiping out wolves in horrific inhumane ways.
I live in Sweden. Not a progressive country when it comes to wildlife, hunting and animal welfare. Sweden pretends that they are progressive but it is shocking how many wild animals are slaughtered. One of the reasons is that people don’t care. They are brain washed and Swedish government is heavily lobbied by pro-hunting groups and they are mostly hunters themselves. Sweden believes in constant management of nature and wildlife. Mostry through eradication of geese, ducks, seagulls, bears, wolves, foxes and especially lynx. Just a sighting of a wolf or bear means it is already dead. Authorities don’t even pretend anymore that they try any non-lethal means to deter predators which number keeps shrinking.. Local governments are penetrated by hunting lobby and they serve hunters’ interests. It is all about trophy and money. And people are mostly uninterested and rarely engage themselves in any kind of protests. They care mostly about skiing and vacation on Mallorca. No rehabilitation centers for wildlife here either. Merciless killing is ongoing It is actually a tragic situation here and getting worse with this pro-hunting new right wing government.
