Stop the Cruel Sale of Illegally Imported Chameleons

Target: Martha Williams, Director – US Fish & Wildlife Service

Goal: End the sale of illegally imported chameleons to protect public safety and prevent harm to wildlife.

The sale of illegally imported chameleons is a serious problem in the United States, with many of the reptiles being brought into the country and sold for profit each year. Not only is this activity a violation of animal welfare laws, but it also poses a threat to public safety, as some of these chameleons can carry diseases that can be transmitted to humans. In addition, the sale of illegally imported chameleons can have a negative impact on wildlife, as the introduction of non-native species can disrupt ecosystems and threaten native species.

To combat the sale of illegally imported chameleons, it is crucial to increase enforcement efforts and strengthen penalties for those involved in this activity. Furthermore, education and outreach efforts can help raise awareness about the dangers of purchasing illegally imported chameleons and the negative impacts of the exotic pet trade on wildlife and ecosystems.

Sign the below petition to urge Director Williams and the US Fish and Wildlife Service to take action to end the sale of illegally imported chameleons and protect public safety and wildlife.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Director Williams,

I am writing to urge the US Fish & Wildlife Service to take action to end the sale of illegally imported chameleons in the United States. The sale of these animals not only violates animal welfare laws, but also poses a significant threat to public safety and wildlife.

Many of the illegally-imported chameleons can carry diseases that can be transmitted to humans, which can lead to serious illness or death. Additionally, the introduction of non-native species through the sale of illegally imported chameleons can have a negative impact on ecosystems and threaten native species.

To address this issue, I urge you to increase enforcement efforts and strengthen penalties for those involved in the sale of illegally imported chameleons. Education and outreach efforts can also help raise awareness about the dangers of purchasing these animals and the negative impacts of the exotic pet trade on wildlife and ecosystems.

Please take action to end the sale of illegallyimported chameleons and protect public safety and wildlife.

Sincerely,
