Something is amiss at the Dallas Zoo. Recently, a lappet-faced vulture named Pin was found dead inside his habitat. Zoo officials say it appears that Pin was “intentionally wounded.” Decades-old, he had been a fixture at the zoo for many years and was a member of an endangered species. Pin’s untimely death marks the latest in a string of troubling incidents at the site.
A week or so prior to this incident, a clouded leopard went missing and was later found roaming the grounds. Authorities believe someone had intentionally let the leopard out. The animal was returned unharmed, but the circumstances could have easily turned to tragedy. Around the same time, someone apparently cut a hole into a monkey enclosure, putting the well-being of the animals inside in jeopardy.
The zoo is being monitored and an active investigation is underway. Sign the petition below to urge prosecutors to seek appropriately strong penalties when a suspect is identified.

When a 35-year-old vulture was found dead at the Dallas Zoo from apparently intentional wounds, the event grabbed national headlines. The death of a representative of one of the most endangered avian species on Earth—in a secured facility, no less—is disturbing enough. The seeming escalation from other troubling incidents that have recently plagued this zoo only increases concern.
Anyone who knowingly and willingly puts another living being in danger needs to face severe consequences so that these behaviors will never be repeated. If the police investigation yields a suspect, please prosecute the case with full vigilance and seek maximum possible charges.
