Goal: Charge woman allegedly involved in caging and killing of stray cat with animal cruelty.
Another day, and another alleged animal killer gets a slap on the wrist from a lax justice system. New Yorker Timothy VanBuren reportedly admitted that he shot and killed a stray cat whom he had trapped in a cage. VanBuren claims he shot the cat in the head under orders from his landlord. Allegedly, the landlord wanted stray cats removed from her property and initially hired a local animal welfare agency to secure the cats in cages, spay and neuter them, and then release them. The agency apparently later discovered that one of the cages left on the premises had been used by the landlord, Judy Wagner, to trap a cat–and that Wagner confessed to telling her tenant to then kill the animal.
VanBuren was charged with aggravated animal cruelty. Upon appearing in court, however, he was given an adjournment contemplating dismissal. This action means that as long as he does not engage in any known criminal activity for the next few months, the charges will be dismissed with no penalty. As if this non-punishment was not injustice enough, the landlord who allegedly had knowledge of and contributed directly to this killing faced no charges at all.

Dear Mr. Seaman,
The animal cruelty allegations brought to your attention through Cat-by-Cat were deeply disturbing. Two people allegedly confessed to a plot to entrap, shoot, and ultimately kill a stray cat for no other reason than that the cat existed. While Timothy VanBuren was charged with aggravated animal cruelty, he ultimately received what amounted to a dismissal of the charges.
This lacking penalty, combined with the reported treatment of animal rescue employees who attempted to attend the proceedings, signals an extremely troubling legal approach to animal cruelty cases in Royalton and well beyond. You can at least partially rectify this seeming injustice, however. Charge the woman who allegedly instigated this deadly incident, Judy Wagner, with aggravated animal cruelty as well. Moreover, vigilantly pursue a punishment that fits the reported crime.
The legal system claimed they wanted to send a message in this case with the initial cruelty charge. Send the lasting message that any deliberate act of cruelty against another living being will never be condoned nor ignored.

So, now your calling for the killing of lawmakers, and judges?? We are ALL upset about harm being done to ANY innocent animal, and believe the perpetrator MUST be punished, but taking it to that level is a threat to people lives that you have no right to dish out! You are lucky if they don’t press charges against you, and this site should be removing any posts making death threats, OR encouraging it!!! How about you stick to fighting for the animals, vote out who you don’t think does defend them, and help elect who will. Your anger SHOULD be directed at the people who actually trapped, and shot the poor cat!! If the current laws didn’t allow for proper punishment, help to change that!! What we are telling people is its okay to hurt and kill innocent animals because we have no justice system that protects them. Thats bs if you ask me. We are telling people it doesnt matter what you kill you wont get punished. There should he justice for any animal harmed purposely by a human. They are no longer human if they have no heart and can kill an animal.
There should be some justice for that cat killing. No one should be getting off for this injustice. The legal system needs some revision. Many of these judges are too lenient. It’s time to be serious about abuse of animals, because if someone gets away with it, the next target may be a child or vulnerable adult. This country should also be serious about way too many guns in the hands of disturbed people.
This cruel, meaningless act occurred in the county where I was born. The legal system has let down living creatures. The animal rescue team was doing its job. The landlord seems to have no empathy towards animals. Let’s hope when she’sbelderly and happens to wander off, she’s not shot for being on someone else’s property. Hold these people accountable. The legal system in Niagara County seems to be part of the problem and not the solution.

The Justice who let walk Timothy VanBuren (lets hope the people who know what he did will treat him as the pariah and loser he is) needs to be Impeached and thrown out of the Judicial System. Soulless VanBuren and Wagner need real justice for Animal Abuse and Murder of an Innocent Living Being – Time to really your job, District Attorney, and get after them and prosecute with severe fines and jail time. You should be taking these heinous crimes seriously! The Animal group should also file a civil suit against these fiends, and file complaints against their not being allowed to participate in the proceedings.
