Target: Eric Schmitt, Attorney General of Missouri
Goal: Prosecute and penalize kennel operators and breeders accused of harming countless dogs.
Multiple dogs were found dead at a McDonald County, Missouri breeder’s property. The breeder had apparently refused to let state Department of Agriculture officials inspect the property for over a year, and these officials seemingly did nothing in the interim. Over in Hickory County, Missouri, Cridder Creek Kennel owners reportedly flaunted a judgment banning them from breeding animals. When a task force finally rescued dogs from the premises, officials said “the severe neglect that these poor animals suffered is abhorrent and inexcusable. We will do everything in our power to ensure the rescued dogs are rehabilitated and given a second chance at a happier life.” Their alleged abusers received a fine and were once again ordered to close their doors. No further criminal penalty was mentioned.
For the past decade, Missouri has topped a notorious list of states with deplorable puppy mills. The state’s lackadaisical response to cases of suspected animal cruelty against dogs highlights that something is broken in the regional system. Only true and serious reform can reverse this tragic trend.
Sign the petition below to demand Missouri’s attorney general start pursing animal cruelty cases involving kennel operators and breeders with much stronger vigilance.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Attorney General Schmitt,
McDonald and Hickory Counties were recently sites of massive animal rescues from allegedly negligent and abusive kennel operators and breeders. In both of these cases, the law enforcement and legal systems had lengthy prior knowledge of suspect activity. In fact, a court settlement had already taken place in one of the cases…a settlement seemingly willfully violated. This complete lack of enforcement of Missouri’s animal cruelty laws is one of the primary reasons why this state has earned the dishonor of the nation’s biggest and worst puppy mill production.
Animals should not have to die before real action is taken. These individuals are reportedly breaking the law, endangering innocent living beings, and getting away with a fine and a slap on the wrist time and again. Please make criminal charges with real jail time and real consequences a centerpiece of this state’s effort to safeguard animals from gross negligence and unchecked abuse.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]

There is no excuse for allowing this to happen to animals. Breeding facilities should not exist. Animals deserve loving homes.
Considering millions of dogs and cats are euthanized every year in the United States you think people would not breed dogs for profit especially in horrific sufferable conditions they should really crack down on this this is a shame a crying shame
ALL THESE CRUEL BREEDERS SHOULD BE FORCED TO LIVE IN THE EXACT FLITH AS ALL THESE INNOVENT AN8MALS LIVE IN ALL DAY AND NIGHT AND ALL YEAR AROUND TOO!!!!
1000% percent. Breeders are vile and cruel. No regard for life
Wendy you hit the nil on the head. Agree, completely.
BAN ALL PUPPY AND KITTEN MILLS NOW. They are horrific places of unending abuse and cruelty. There are already TOO MANY ANIMALS in shelters, who are sentenced to death because the shelters are filled to capacity. Every BRED ANIMAL produced means death for a shelter animal. ACT NOW.
This is inexcusable!! As a MO resident, Eric Schmitt, you need to start taking care of problems in MO instead of worrying about federal issues and campaigning!! Animals have rights to and don’t deserve to have politicians ignore and allow them to live in deplorable conditions!!
EXACTLY TO THE POINT PATRICIA!!!! THIS STORY IS NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT I HAVE HEARD ABOUT THE LAX LAWS IN MISSOURI ON ANIMAL ABUSE AND TORTURE!!!! NOT THAT LONG AGO A SO CALLED HUMANE SOCIETY IN ARKANSAS GOT BUSTED FOR THE CRUAL AND INHUMANE TREATMENT FOR THE DOGS THAT WERE THERE AND GOT TAKEN AWAY THANK GOD!!!! THE PEOPLE THAT ARE SUPPOSE TO UPHOLD THE LAW ON ANIMAL ABUSE NEED TO GET OFF THIER ASSES AND DO THIER JOBS OR FIND ANOTHER ONE!!!! ANIMAL ABUSE IS A FEDERAL FELONY IN ALL STATES START CHARGING AS SUCH AND GET THE PHYCOPATHS OUT OF OUR SOCIETY!!!!
So tired of hearing these stories. This country needs harsher laws for animal abuse and neglect at the federal level. These are domestic animals, they exist because humans wanted companions, to help them but mostly to be part of a loving family. We OWE it to them to live and care for them.
Yes the U.S. needs to change state and federal laws to give all animals rights and protection to stop abuse and torture and killing of all animals!! Will this happen in my lifetime – maybe….
Once again this was allowed to happen!!! Sickeni g and yet all these MONSTERS receive is a slap on the wrist! There in lies the problem. God damnit the laws for animal abuse must be harsher and actually carried out!!!
Despicable, horrific, abusive. Animals deserve to be protected from scum breeders. Put yourself in a helpless, dangerous, deplorable jail and nobody that can help cares if you live or die. Open up the doors if there’s no criminal acts being committed. This department needs an honest overhaul and the court system too. Seems to me pockets are deeply lined. Give honesty a peek, we will clear them out! Save our beautiful gift of companionship and unrelenting love from our animals!!!
Stop Breeding!!!!!
The breeding mills need to stop and it can be done. Push your legislators to do the right thing.
Why can’t dog breeders get REAL jobs to earn REAL money (like the rest of us do) instead of forcing female dogs to be raped, over and over again? Do they rape their own wives and sell their own babies on the black market? I doubt it. So why is it okay to get their female dogs raped for money?
Breeders are just the ‘scum’ of the world, let’s hope the USA would enact more strict laws to send them to jail once and for all
Degenerate human monsters who do not hesitate to earn money from the suffering of poor animals – hopefully they end up going to hell.
Dear Attorney General Schmitt,
Cases of animal cruelty are repeated all the time in the United States – a country supposedly to be the most civilized in the world – and yet nobody does anything … the offenders do not go beyond receiving a slap on their wrist … where is the Justice?
Won’t you enact a law in this respect?
Thank you!
Breeding needs to be put on hold for a year or more. This is heartbreaking that these helpless puppies and dogs are treated as commodity and not a somebody. All for greed and selfishness. These dogs are suffering tremendously from 5he hands of humans. Such a disgrace
Your Highness:
Animals are living beings that have feelings – it is not fair that by greed to earn money, they are subjected to a miserable life …
Please consider this when you give sentence!
Thank you!
Lock these assholes away in a tiny cage forever!!
Animal breeders need to be put OUT OF BUSINESS by state and federal laws – all people need to actually care about animals in order to get all people to vote these animal protection laws in
People who run puppy mills are nothing but lazy, greedy pieces of garbage! These places need to be banned and outlawed. The owners should have to pay huge fines and then spend the rest of their worthless lives in jail.
Does anyone here think that politicians give a shit about how dogs and cats are treated? All they care about is fund raising to get re-elected.If you found one politician in a 1,000 that really cared about animals, you’d be a lucky person.
The State of Missouri is well known around the Country for their puppy mills. Puppy Mills should not even be in existence but it seems as long as Breeders pay their financial dues to the Department of Agriculture, then the Breeder’s operations of cruelty and abuse can continue. The torture and suffering of these animals unfortunately endure years of abuse for financial profitability purposes only. It is heartbreaking to know that their life spans are so short and have to spend their time being used as breeding machines without ever experiencing a home full of love, attention, and proper medical care. So the next time you hear of abuse and neglect at a puppy mill, then you know it is not just the owners or breeders who are committing this abuse, but it is also the Department of Agriculture responsible for allowing it.
