In particular, the report alleges that $98 million has been specifically earmarked for new dog testing at pharmaceutical firms, wherein beagles are subjected to brutal experiments, such as force-feeding experimental drugs and breeding puppies for blindness. Kittens, too, are not spared, with reported experiments involving forcing them to walk on treadmills and subjecting them to carbon dioxide respiratory distress techniques.
Animals have the right to be protected from cruel scientific practices, and a substantial regulatory shake-up is necessary to prevent further atrocities in the name of research.
