Demand Justice for Farm Animals Allegedly Refused Care After Devastating Fire

Target: Raymond A. Tierney, District Attorney for Suffolk County, NY

Goal: Ensure appropriate accountability and punishment for the alleged failure to help animals in a barn fire.

A tragic incident unfolded at Wells Farm in Riverhead on November 12, 2025, where a devastating barn fire killed several animals and left others in critical condition. The flames engulfed a large section of the structure, prompting multiple fire departments to respond. As the fire raged, courageous officers and firefighters risked their lives to rescue animals trapped inside, but despite their efforts, pigs and chickens were unable to escape the inferno.

The Long Island Humane Society responded to the scene to assess these animals, and another organization, Humane Long Island, offered veterinary care. Alarmingly, the owner of Wells Farm allegedly refused assistance, stating that the animals were “on their way out anyway” due to the farm’s slaughtering operations. Such a dismissive attitude towards suffering animals is utterly unacceptable and reflects a blatant disregard for their well-being.

Immediate action is needed to address this apparent disturbing negligence and ensure that those responsible for such cruelty are held accountable. Demand a thorough investigation into the alleged conditions and treatment of animals at Wells Farm and the implementation of appropriate punishment for any wrongdoing discovered.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear DA Tierney,

The recent barn fire at Wells Farm resulted in the tragic deaths of numerous animals and left others with severe injuries, raising serious concerns about the care provided to these animals. Many were unable to escape the flames, and the aftermath revealed that survivors suffered from burns and smoke inhalation. The alleged refusal of veterinary assistance and a reported callous statement suggesting these animals were “on their way out anyway,” suggests a shocking level of negligence and insensitivity towards the welfare of sentient beings.

It is crucial that actions are taken to address this situation. The conditions at Wells Farm may reflect systematic issues regarding the treatment of animals, which cannot be tolerated. We demand a comprehensive investigation into the treatment of animals at Wells Farm, and appropriate punishment for any wrongdoing that is discovered. Animals deserve better, and steps must be taken to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.

Sincerely,
