In what might be described as a major conservation win, it seems that one of our most beloved big cats has been saved from the brink of extinction. According to the latest report from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), tiger populations have increased a whopping 40% across Asia in the last seven years, while populations in Nepal are said to have doubled. After about a century of decline, tiger populations are growing exponentially, with an estimated 3,726 to 5,578 tigers in the wild today. While tigers are still critically endangered and continue to face threats due to poaching and habitat loss, this news is still very exciting and shows that conservation efforts do, in fact, work.
In a previous ForceChange petition, people called for stronger protections for the endangered tiger. Organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), have been particularly crucial in tiger conservation efforts and can be partially credited with the recent boom in tiger populations. The WWF has, for decades, worked with the governments across the 13 countries with wild tiger populations to help them develop pointed agendas and raise public awareness for tiger conservation.

We at the ForceChange community want to thank you and the rest of WWF for your decade-long dedication to international tiger conservation efforts. Thanks to the work of yours and other organizations like WWF, tiger populations are growing exponentially after centuries of decline. In the past seven years, tiger populations across Asia have increased 40%, while populations in Nepal have essentially doubled.
Although tigers are still critically endangered and continue to face threats by way of habitat degradation and poaching, recent rebounds in populations should validate all your hard work. The road before us is still long, but we have every confidence that you will do all that is in your power to continue saving these–and other–beautiful animals from the brink of extinction.
