Puppy Allegedly Swung by the Neck and Thrown Across Room Deserves Justice

Target: Commonwealth Attorney for Jefferson County, Kentucky

Goal: Hold those involved in the alleged torture and killing of a puppy accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

The heinous actions reportedly taken against a defenseless puppy in Louisville demand immediate and stringent legal consequences. Allegations have emerged that Demetrius Hebert swung a puppy around by the neck and, during an argument with his girlfriend, threw the poor animal across a room where it collided with a glass table. Tragically, despite a swift response from the Louisville Metro Police and a rush to Shively Animal Hospital, the puppy reportedly succumbed to injuries before receiving medical care.

As police continue their investigation into this shocking incident, it’s starkly clear that such apparent acts of cruelty should never be tolerated. Allegations of dog torture are underpinned by a framework of legal protections now in place in Kentucky, following the implementation of Ethan’s Law, which categorizes animal abuse as a felony. Yet, despite these advancements, Kentucky still ranks poorly for animal protection laws, being classified as the fifth-worst state in 2024. It is vital that those who perpetrate such egregious acts of violence are held accountable, and appropriate punishment is enforced to deter future incidents of animal cruelty.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Commonwealth Attorney,

The brutal treatment of a puppy allegedly inflicted by Demetrius Hebert in Louisville seemingly represents a deeply disturbing abuse that warrants immediate prosecution. Reports indicate that Hebert swung the puppy by the neck and hurled it across a room, leading to the animal’s untimely death.

Given the protections established by Ethan’s Law to ensure animal abusers are prosecuted for their first offenses, it is crucial that the seriousness of these allegations is matched by an appropriate legal response. The community is understandably outraged by the incident, and it is imperative that the prosecution of Hebert serves to not only seek justice for this puppy but also to send a strong message that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Jefferson County or anywhere else in Kentucky.

We urge you to pursue the maximum penalties available under the law in this case, ensuring that such acts of cruelty are punished appropriately. The lives of innocent animals depend upon robust enforcement of our laws against abuse, and it is essential that we demonstrate a commitment to protecting the vulnerable members of our society.

Sincerely,
