Target: Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office
Goal: Hold man accountable for alleged decision to lethally shoot a neighbor’s dog rather than seek assistance after the pet was caught in a coyote trap.
A tragic incident in Gwinnett County has left a community reeling after a 78-year-old man allegedly shot his neighbor’s dog, a friendly husky, rather than contacting authorities when the pet became ensnared in a coyote trap he had set in his backyard. This shocking occurrence, which unfolded near Duluth, has brought to light serious concerns regarding animal safety and ethical responsibilities related to wildlife management. Richard Hart’s purported actions not only highlight a disturbing response to a domestic animal in distress but also underscore the potential dangers associated with amateur wildlife control measures.
According to police reports and body camera footage, the incident took place around 11 a.m. when the dog, which was not a threat, was caught in one of Hart’s traps. Instead of notifying the police or animal control for help, Hart reportedly chose to retrieve a shotgun and shoot the trapped dog. Cpl. Juan Madiedo of the Gwinnett County Police Department stated that Hart’s justification for this extreme action was based on the dog’s alleged history of chasing his cats. This rationale has been met with widespread shock, as many residents believe that such a situation demands professional intervention rather than lethal force.
The community’s outcry reflects a deeper issue of accountability when it comes to the management of wildlife within suburban environments. Local residents have expressed skepticism about the necessity of coyote traps in an area devoid of significant coyote issues, further questioning Hart’s decisions. It is vital that those allegedly responsible for such extreme and violent acts face appropriate legal consequences.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office,
The tragic incident involving Richard Hart, who allegedly shot a neighbor’s dog rather than seek assistance after the pet became ensnared in a coyote trap he had set, demands immediate and thorough legal action. Reportedly, this beloved and friendly husky was caught in the trap, yet instead of contacting animal control or law enforcement, Hart took the shocking step of shooting the dog with a shotgun. Such actions not only indicate a blatant disregard for animal welfare but also raise serious concerns regarding the ethical implications of wildlife control measures deployed in residential areas.
Community members and local law enforcement have criticized Hart’s alleged justification for this lethal action, stemming from the dog’s purported history of chasing his cats. The idea that a defenseless pet, entrapped and distressed, warranted such violent intervention calls for serious reflection on the responsibilities of animal ownership and wildlife management. The shocking nature of this incident highlights pressing questions about accountability and the standards to which individuals are held when dealing with animals in their care.
The public is grieving for the loss of this innocent animal, and it is essential that justice is served. Strong legal measures must be initiated against Richard Hart for his reportedly cruel and reckless conduct. Local residents stand united in calling for appropriate punishment that reinforces the message that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in our community.
Sincerely,

Once again, bloodthirsty Americans cannot resist murdering innocent pet dogs! They also have a compulsion to kill wildlife, and in a horribly painful way. These Americans are brutal, evil thugs. Hart deserves to be executed for this murder of the poor dog that was injured and should have been rescued, which any normal human being would have done. Hart is a monster, and decent people should hope that he does not last for much longer.
