Cherished Pet Goat Seized From Young Girl and Slaughtered Deserves Justice

Target: Shasta County Sheriff and Shasta District Fair Officials

Goal: Hold accountable those responsible for the seizure and slaughter of a beloved pet goat, Cedar.

The distressing case of a young girl in Northern California, whose cherished pet goat Cedar was seized by sheriff’s deputies and taken to slaughter, has drawn national attention. According to reports, the girl faced threats of criminal charges from fair representatives, claiming ownership of Cedar even after the girl had saved him from the auction block. The subsequent seizure and tragic outcome, wherein Cedar was reportedly slaughtered despite the girl’s attempts to protect him, emphasize the potential for grave injustices within animal custody disputes and the enforcement of purported laws.

As detailed in the lawsuit, Cedar was more than just property; he was a family member cherished by the young girl who cared for him daily. With Cedar auctioned off and his meat sold, the emotional and physical toll on the girl and her family has been profound. The legal battle that ensued highlighted numerous alleged missteps by both law enforcement and fair officials, raising concerns about how animals are treated under the law and the inherent value of pet companionship in society.

The incident underscores the urgent necessity for an investigation into the actions of Shasta County and its sheriff’s department, among others. The demand is clear: those responsible for this heartbreaking event should face appropriate penalties and reforms should be implemented to ensure such a mismanagement of animal custody does not happen again. Accountability is critical, and this case serves as a pivotal moment for reform in animal welfare legislation and practices.

PETITION LETTER:

To the Shasta County Sheriff and Shasta District Fair Officials,

The heartbreaking seizure and subsequent slaughter of Cedar, a beloved pet goat belonging to a young girl, raises severe questions about the treatment of animals in legal custody. Reports suggest that Cedar was forcibly taken from the girl after she decided against selling him at an auction, despite her clear affection and commitment to him as a family member. The threats allegedly made by fair officials that the girl would face charges of grand theft if she did not relinquish Cedar only compound this distressing situation.

This unacceptable series of events culminated in Cedar being sold for meat, stripping away the girl’s right to protect her pet and leading to irreversible emotional harm. Cedar’s tragic fate as he was auctioned off for meat seems to reflect a concerning disregard for obligations owed to animals, who, according to the lawsuit, are recognized as family by their owners. It is imperative that those responsible for this incident are held accountable to prevent such injustice in the future.

We call for an investigation and appropriate punishment for the individuals involved in this case, as well as comprehensive reforms to ensure the dignity and rights of animals are respected. It is vital that robust systems are in place to prioritize animal welfare over bureaucratic mishandlings.

Sincerely,
Your Name Here

That is the problem with these 4H projects. The animals are treated like pets…cosseted and loved but their sale for slaughter is required. The poor critters have no idea why they are suddenly treated so poorly…they are confused and frightened. The young kids can be traumatized. If the want to auction the critters…fine. It should not be required.

    • Excellent point. What does forcing a child to sell a farm animal to slaughter really teach them? That adults are cruel? That livestock farming is a horrible, unethical profession lacking compassion? That they are not allowed to change their minds and renegotiate a decision they have made that now does not make sense?
If a child raises an animal and chooses to auction it, then perhaps this teaches a valuable lesson and shows they are prepared for the life of an animal farmer. But not for any child whose beloved “pet” is forcibly taken from them.

  2. What an unacceptable treatment of this sentient being and unacceptable handling of this whole situation. There is nothing superior about humans at all!! Please investigate this matter and hold those responsible for Cedar’s slaughter . And above all, please implement badly needed reforms so that this situaiton does not reoccur.

  3. Teach children love and respect. This goat should not have been slaughtered.period!

  4. I remember this case when it began. The mother offered to reimburse the club any & all money it spent on the goat. What lesson does this club want to teach kids anyway??? This club should be forced to break up. They put money over raising loving, emotionally healthy children.

    • Just learning of this, horrible! From what I understand these 4H Clubs have children care for & raise animals than auction them off for profit. What does this teach about responsibility, kindness & compassion…only for the Almighty dollar?!?

  5. What kind of asshole would do this to a child?

  6. Horrible people to do this I do they get punished real good

  7. Here we go again! Taking a beloved animal and killing it. With all the terrible animal abuse that goes on without justice, you seize another beloved pet. Wake the f#$k up!!!! Stop taking and killing animals that are cared for.

  8. The individuals involved with stealing and murdering this precious defenseless little angel host of this young girl and family outta be taken out and slaughtered. They should pay for their evil to this precious goat. May cedar have a peace over the rainbow 🌈 bridge and these evil ones be punished to the fullest and there be justice for innocent cedar.

    • Well— what big hard bastards these buggers are! Got bugger all else to do but take a young girls pet goat and get it slaughtered for meat! What big brave men. I mean, the goat could have attacked them so they had to capture it and take it away.!!!!!
And I’ll bet the sods enjoyed it too. Not sure but I really hope the distraught family can sue them.
I’m very sure that many people would feel and think as I do!
And that is—-If this had happened to my family these bastards would all be ‘dead men walking’ as the expression goes. A bullet through the back of the head would work but could be a little messy! My trusty ‘Coke Hammer’ would do the job admirably and send the pricks to very long permanent sleepy- byes.
These are sick ‘motherfucks’ who are surplus to our worlds requirements. I am totally and utterly SICK’ of reading about these nasties every other day. And what they put innocent animals through. Uprisings are now needed to stop these turds in their tracks. It has to happen otherwise this animal torture and murder will just keep on happening!

4H should allow these children to keep the animals they raise, you don’t take someone’s pet and kill it, these people should be held accountable, especially the people at the fairgrounds, she learned everything she needed to while raising that baby as well as how to love and empathy for a tiny creature that didn’t have a voice in its own life… these people should be ashamed of themselves… the only lesson they taught this little girl is you can’t trust adults…..

  11. As a former resident of Shasta County, I’m horrified to learn about this horrendous travesty. It was incredibly inhumane and unconscionable to have resulted in the auction and slaughter of this innocent animal who had only known love from a human before this.

Shasta County Fairground personnel and Animal Control need to get further education in how to humanely address this kind of situation so that this brutal result never happens again!!!

  12. FIRE EVERY ONE OF THE SO-CALLED OFFICIALS INVOLVED. This is horrendous.

  13. The notion that the (invited) Haitian immigrants are eating the cats and dogs was debunked. The reality is that the white people of Shasta County are eating the pets.

  14. Some people are SICK BASTARDS it doesn’t make any difference if they are elder or younger people. THEY ARE CRUEL TO THE CORE.. They deserve the same treatment as what they do to the defenseless animals. THIS IS HORRIFIC!!!

  15. Sounds like the police dept consists of a bunch of assholes that obviously don’t care about real crime. Fucking pussies

  16. what really happened and what was the big deal in letting her keep her goat?

  17. Maria Lavorato says:

Seized by sheriff’s deputies and taken to slaughter! So sorry little Cedar…..

WTFH…are you f…ing kidding me! THIS IS A DAMN GOOD WAY TO SHOW YOUNG PEOPLE AND THE WORLD HOW LAW ENFORCEMENT WORKS. YOU ARE ALL TRULY EVIL MONSTERS. NO WONDER THEIR IS SO MUCH CRIME! FIND COMPASSION ASSHOLES!

HOLD ALLL THOSE ACCOUNTABLE IAW THE GRAVITY OF THIS HEINOUS CRIME. THIS WAS A BELOVED PET …YOU F..G LUNATICS.

  18. Maria Lavorato says:

that’s right teach the young to have no COMPASSION. ASSHOLES!!!!!

  19. Cedar and this little girl that raised her deserved to stay together.
What kind of monster would separate them and kill this beloved animal? Accountability and punishment for such a heinous act need to be carried out.

  20. I had a goat as a pet and they are very much like a dog. Mine was named Amos Moses and he loved to sit on my lap. Just a wonderful little guy!! Throw the book at those cops that did this to Cedar !!
