Elderly Dog Doused in Gasoline and Set on Fire While Sleeping in His Bed in His Own Backyard Deserves Justice

Target: Phoenix Police Department, Phoenix Mayor Gallego, Phoenix City Council

On the morning of Tuesday, March 5th, 2024, an unknown arsonist attacked a family’s dogs (an 8 y/o Doberman named Duchess and a 16 y/o Pitbull-mastiff named Duke) while they were sleeping in their backyard pen. Stella McPhee was away working a night shift when she got the dreadful call at 5:30AM. The attacker poured gasoline over the fence onto the dogs and their beds before lighting a fire and fleeing. Duchess was able to escape without any injuries but Duke could not. He fought until his last breath, and the family made the agonizing decision to have their loyal, elderly dog, put down due to the extent of his burns. A gofundme has been set up to assist with unforseen costs related to this incident. For more information on this horrible cruelty, please visit https://www.azfamily.com/2024/03/07/dog-doused-gasoline-lit-fire-backyard-phoenix-home/ for the agonizing story.

We’re calling on the Phoenix Police Department to find this animal abuser and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. This person is a danger to not just animals, but to the people of this Phoenix neighborhood. Behaviors such as these lead to even worse crimes and violence. We’re also calling on Mayor Kate Gallego to lead the city of Phoenix, and to be tough on crime, because this is just unacceptable for the rest of us to be able to get past this, without Duke receiving his justice.
