Goal: Mandate wild animal welfare research to illuminate how humans can improve their interactions with wild animals and maintain biodiversity.
New York University (NYU)—a private research university in New York City—recently launched a wild animal welfare program to study the impact of human activity and associated environmental changes on the health of wild animals. Founders of this interdisciplinary research initiative recognize the extensive biodiversity of our world and acknowledge the importance of each and every individual in helping to maintain the complex, dynamic ecosystems to which they belong.
As most current animal welfare research and policies are based around domestic animals, little work has been done in the way of exploring the direct effects of human impact on individual wild animals—as opposed to ecosystems or species. With their work, NYU hopes to shed light on how humans can improve their interactions with wild animals, and on policies we can enact to better support global biodiversity
Sign this petition to mandate that other institutions launch similar research initiatives and make conservation-based, wild animal welfare research a priority.

Dear President Biden,
Over the past few decades, human activities have led to the mass extinction of species and the collapse of fragile ecosystems. Biodiversity is decreasing at a faster rate than ever before, and we must take action if we want to have a chance at saving the Earth. New York University (NYU) has recently founded a research initiative–the Wild Animal Welfare Program–that will help investigate and determine the impact of human activity and associated environmental changes on the health of individual wild animals. With their work, NYU hopes to shed light on how humans can improve their interactions with wild animals, and on what policies we can enact to better support global biodiversity.
We are asking you, Mr. Biden, to demand other research universities and institutes implement similar initiatives and dedicate resources to the biodiversity crisis–as it is one we are facing in real time and which, if not given the proper attention, will end in the Earth’s demise.
