Goal: Prosecute and punish couple who allegedly used a kitchen knife to operate on puppy.
A Pennsylvania puppy was allegedly subjected to an unauthorized and painful medical procedure by a dog breeder. According to the state’s Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) chapter, Ray Martin (with his wife’s assistance) performed surgery with a knife he had heated on the English bulldog puppy’s eye in the couple’s kitchen. No pain medication or numbing were apparently provided during this torturous process.
The alleged act was said to be done in response to a condition known as cherry eye that the puppy had developed. Martin reportedly removed an essential gland around the eyelid. Because the procedure allegedly did not include veterinary supervision, this young animal will likely need continued care and treatment for the remainder of his life. For both the alleged crimes of failure to provide veterinary care and torturing an animal, this suspect has been charged with two counts of animal cruelty.

Dear Ms. Adams,
A breeder purchases a puppy, and a short time later this breeder faces animal cruelty charges. The evidence for these charges comes from a concerned veterinarian who examined the young animal.
The accusations, however, could never truly encompass this living being’s alleged suffering. The puppy’s eye was reportedly cut with a scalding hot kitchen knife. The pain, as you can imagine, would have been unbearable. According to reports, the puppy did not even receive even miniscule pain relief. The professionals looking after him estimate he will now need life-long care for this apparent maiming.
Please prosecute Martin and his alleged “assistant,” his wife, to the fullest extent of the law.

Totally agree, this backstreet breeder must be shut down for good. These morons make a fortune from selling innocent puppies yet have no regard for their welfare, rather than taking the pup to a vet they subjected it to a horrendous ordeal causing unbearable pain and permanent damage also the pup must have been traumatised. All this to save a few dollars on vet bills. Make them pay for all treatment and make local residents aware of this truly evil act. Hope the poor pup recovers from his ordeal.
The surgery for Cherry Eye does not involve removing the gland it involves suturing the eye to keep the gland from protruding my cocker spaniel needed same. If you want to be a breeder you should accept the responsibility of providing proper veterinary care, its not just about making money.

Nothing about them is human. They should both be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, lose their breeding license if they even have one, be no longer allowed to own or breed ever again. I truly hope that puppy was removed from their vile and disgusting hands.
I hate thinking of animals being scared. I totally hear you. I have rescue cats here with me and one of them was being starved so “She would catch mice”. She was down to skin and bones. I took her in, got her weight up and kept her. Oh yeah. And turned her supposed pet parent to animal control. Lexus loves me now and strokes my head with her paw. She’s sleeping right beside me right now. I really worried over this baby and paced back and forth keeping an eye on her that first week. All she did was sleep. I love her.

This is beyond cruel. I’m sure it was to save money. This couple can hardly be called breeders. Their license needs to be taken away permanently. The court needs to make sure this couple pays all vet bills for the rest of this puppy’s life. This was criminal and requires prison for both and a stiff fine. I don’t like saying this but of either of these people were to be burnt on the leg by that torch they put into this puppy’s eye, given no medical attention, and then have to suffer from that small burn they might have a taste of what pain they caused. Neither one of these people should ever be allowed near animals for the rest of their lives. Their cruel stupidity and cheapness will cost them greatly and it should!
Agreed and I’ve also like to return in kind the same cruelty upon them and cut off their hand so they can never harm another animal again. Maybe their feet too cuz they can kick. They don’t deserve to have limbs. I am so sickened and my stomach is upset by this heinous brutal cruel Act.

They both must be charged with 2 counts of 1st degree animal cruelty felonies each, each spend 8 years in prison with no early parole, each pay a $400,000 fine, and both be banned for life from owning, breeding, selling, or going near any animals ever again. All the animals they have now must be seized immediately and not ever given back. They must be shut down and banned for life from owning, running, or even working as breeders. They must be banned from all animals for life
They need to be treated the same way as they did to the poor puppy but with the breeders who nows how many other animals they did so the breeders need to have both their eyes done. Its just total cruelty.
Animal abusers should get the death penalty by lethal injection which is the most painful way to go.

There is never an excuse for doing this to a helpless animal. Only veterinarians and their staff should be operating on animals with their surgical tools and pain relief.
