Prevent Animal Deaths From Fires at Pet Store

pet store by NWevurski

Target: Pet World

Goal: Prevent deaths of animals by devising fire safety procedures.

A brutal fire broke out at a Pet World in Lawrence, Kansas recently. The pet store’s staff and rescue crews came to help fight the blaze and save the animals. However, no small mammals or birds survived. Several reptiles and tarantulas did survive, though, and triage areas were set up to give them the care they needed.

As of right now the cause of the fire has not been determined, and the store was closed when the blaze broke out. Pet World needs to take better care of the defenseless animals it sells. Urge the company to devise a fire prevention plan to save animals’ lives in the future.

Dear Pet World,

A deadly blaze broke out at your store in Lawrence, Kansas recently. While many reptiles were saved, all of the small mammals and birds perished in the fire.

By selling these animals and keeping them in your stores, you are by default responsible for their safety. Please don’t let this happen again. We the undersigned urge you to devise a fire prevention plan to prevent the senseless deaths of so many innocent animals in the future.

When there is the danger of animals or humans being killed in fires, I think a sprinkler system would be advisable.

  3. Gloria Wellington says:

Ban pet shops get laws to close them all!

  4. Kae Blecha, OTR says:

Lawrence is a university town; ie, educated people live there. I doubt that you would be selling more pets after this fire because it will be a wake-up call to the community. So give up the live animal business already.

  5. Christian Dewar says:

Sprinkler system should be required at all Pet stores. If they have living animal that aren’t able to dial 911 then they need something for them to survive a fire.

  6. Janet Simon says:

Please, read my comment and if you take action; EVERYONE, will then know that you care!!!!!!!!

  7. You’re dealing and engaged with living beings — you must ensure their protection and safety 24/7.
